Leicestershire Lookup Requests / Re: RUSSELL of Kirby Muxloe
« on: Friday 09 February 07 23:51 GMT (UK)  »
Hello Mike

I wasn't expecting anyone to reply this quickly - Thank you.

I think it was you Mike who did the look up for me some time ago now. Do you happen to know anything about the shop in Church Road? Also I have found out that my 4 x great grandfather John was married to a Mary CHAPMAN on the 22 May 1820, this is down as Aylestone. You have listed John and Marys death, the rest are thier children and all of them were, I believe, born in Kirby Muxloe as was the rest of my faamily line including my father.
I would like to find out as much as possible about the wedding as this is the only info I have about it.
I would also like to solve the mystery of John who says he was born in Great Brington in about 1788. The only problem being is that I cannot find his name in Great Brington for that time. I have got a number of theories 1) his name was William (there was a william born at that time). 2. He was not baptised ther and came to Leicester at an early age. I had some other theories but cannot remember them at the moment! Do you know if ther was a William RUSSELL in Kirby Muxloe anytime after 1788 that might be him? I really do not know what to do.
Anyway, soory to bore you with that lot and I really thank you for your help.
Regards
Paul

Hi Wendy

That info from Mike is really useful (Thanks Mike). As I said I am coming down to Leicester to do some family history. This will be the middle of Feb. I will see what I can dig up (not on the site of Cork Hall !) when I am at the records office. I will travel the route Mike suggests and the wind should not bother me to much as its always windy here in scarborough.
It is really good to see that you have some good connections with Newtown Linford - a very pretty area. My grandmother is down on her birth certificate as being born 2 May 1908 at Cork Hall, her father was Robert Holmes and listed as Gamekeeper on the certificate. In 1910 her ister was born in Newton Harcourt so I am not sure if Rober had left Cork Hall by then but he certainly had by 1912.
Please keep in touch and I will let you know what I find out.

Regards
Paul

Hi Wendy

I don't have much but here it is -
From Clive Chandler - Senior Archives Asst at Leicestershire Records Office:
'Cork Hall was a smallholding and was part of the Bradgate estate in Leicestershire. It appears on the ordnance survey maps of 1884, 1903, 1929 and 1956; on the 1976 map of the area the buildings have gone, but there appears a Cork Hall farm two fields higher up from the original smallholding.

According to some other info I had but cannot find it is no longer there.
Do you live near the area at all? I live some 150 miles away but as I used to live not to far from there I know the area a little. I am planning to go there in February. I am wondering if the records office at Wigston will have the employee records for Cork Hall? I will try to find out when I go.

If you do get any other info or live nearby would you please let me know.

Regards
Paul

Hello Wendy

Did you ever get any info for Cork Hall? My greatgranfather was a gamekeeper for Cork Hall in 1908 when my grandmother was born. I have found some info that might be of help but I am not sure what you have.

Thanks
