Hi
William CRAWFORD of Downpatrick, late 91st Highlanders who died on the 8th July 1911 aged 75. Erected by his regiment. This memorial is in Down Cathedral, Downpatrick, County Down, Northern Ireland.

I have been contacted by a person in Canada who is connected with the above looking far any relative.  please read his e-mail and if any one can help please make contact.

"Folks! The entry for "William Crawford of Downpatrick Late 91st Highlanders Who Died on 8th July 1911 Aged 75 Years" could literally be the answer to more than 30 years of searching by some very committed genealogists in Canada. William Henry Crawford was my great-great grandfather. We have his date of birth as 1834 (not 1836). He was married to one Honora Carroll. He served in the 91st (from 1852-62), in the 18th Royal Irish (1862-5), and finally in the 102nd Foot (1865-1873). The latter two postings were in India. Our WHC and his family emigrated to Canada in 1885. He vanishes from the scene in the mid-1890's, with lots of stories about what happened to him. He enrolled in Belfast in 1852 and we have photocopies of his enrolment papers"

Hi

Is there any family from Ballywalter  or County Down who may have a family connection to Private 18272 JOHN MCDOWELL he was a native of Ballywalter and is parents were William and Elizabeth.  He joined the army in 1914 and was medically discharge from Clandeboye Camp on the 2nd February 1915 suffering from pulmonary tuberculosis. He did not any time re-enlist and he is commemorated on the Ballywalter War Mememorial.  Irish BMD shows a John McDowell aged 19 having died in the quarter April-June 1915 registered at Newtownards.   I am trying to establish what happened to him.
many regards

Hi
A BIG thank's to every on who replied it has been a great help.  It appears that the surnames was either miss spelt or the Commission was given the spelling of the surname, at least we have the correct soldier.

Down / George LEDLIE
« on: Tuesday 21 July 15 08:10 BST (UK)  »
Hi.

Is there any person who can solve a Great War Mystery.
Commemorated on the headstone in St Andrews graveyard, Ballyesboro, Co Down (The church notice board has Ballyhalbert) is George LEDLIE who was killed in France on the 18th July 1916 aged 25.  Parents were William and Margaret (Maggie)
No record can be found for this soldier under the surname of LEDLIE.  However there is a George LAIDLAW who died on the same day same age and in France and his parents were W.H.Laidlaw of Ballyesboro.  Is this the same family.

many regards
Alf
