Gary,

It's a file that most genealogy programs can open ( I use Family Tree Maker 2011) which will allow you to see everyone I have found, will save you spending on Scotlands People.

Robert

Robert hi hope you are well. I've just got some new family tree software, any chance that you might be able to send me that file you referred to before? I would be really grateful. Thanks Gary

Hi Robert thanks for that, I'm also from Archie's son John Campbells line.
From there we split, I follow down through John's son Archibald (1869), His Daughter Flora Muir Swan  (nee BcBride) (1904) then my grandmother Sarah McBride McMahon (nee Swan) (1927) known as Morag and then my mum Flora McMahon (1951) , oh and me 1970.

Talk about name repetition down the line too many Archies, John's and Flora's :)

They also all seem to be from Greenock after John Campbell until my mothers generation who moved to Corby in England and I now live in Australia.

Here's what I have on Archie:

Archie McBride (b1803- d1876):
Born in Kilbride, Bute on the Isle of arran in  April 1803 (18th suspected) - Baptised 24/4/1803 - [O.P.R. Births 553/00 0010 0110]*

Parents of John McBride & Christina Robinson
Suspected Brother of Janet (1799), William (1801), Anna (1805), Alexander (1807) and Christian Sophi (1809) - as advised on this chain.

Married Margret Campbell (from Edinburgh)
Died at home (22 Sugar House Lane, Greenock, Renfrew, Scotland of Liver disease on 11/9/1876 aged 74  /[Statutory Deaths 564/03 0685]*

He had three children that i'm aware of: Martha (b.~1840), John Campbell (b.~1842) and Archibald (b.~1845)

It would appear that he was in fact described as a Deep sea Pilot - what ever that is :) ?http://www.mariners-l.co.uk/UKPilots.html ?

And I have Census records for Archie & Margaret's  Household in:
1881 (Marg only) - [Census 1881 564/03 002/00 002]*,
1871 (Archie & Marg) - [Census 1871 564/03 029/00 001]*
1861 (Archie, Marg, Martha,John,Archie Jnr & Christina McVean grand-daughter) - [Census 1861 564/03 025/00 001]*
1851 - Cant find any census info that i can confirm to be them as yet
1841 -  Nothing yet but belived to be in Kilbride.

*Ref taken from Scotlands People documents.

I've got some things on John also but i'll email them to you.

I've only been looking for a week so dont have masses of info but i'm happy to share what i've got. Can you pm me and i'll respond.

All the best

Gary

Hi Andarah & Rob, I am a direct descendant of Archibald McBride the Deep Sea Pilot and have some details of his family and descendants directly to me if thats of any use to you? Although i think i have his DOB estimated at 1809 not 1803

I dont have much about his beginnings, siblings and his descendants. Do you know if John & Christina were actually his parents and do you have any more details on them?

Oh and Joe thanks for posting you note below this has also help me out.

Any help will be appreciated.
All the best
Gary
