Thanks, This is the Grave William Gunning, The Father of William was also called William and he married Kate, he  was killed in a boiler explosion in Dublin in 1910 leaving Kate his wife with 3 small children. They moved back to Westport to her family home. Thanks for pointing out the photo.

Regards

Tom

Many thanks for this info, I had not realised that the Irish civil registration were not in place in 1861. I wrongly assumed it started the same time as the UK civil registrations in 1837.

I had assumed this period for the marriage, since the first child was born in 1862, so that ties in quite well. The local parish church is St Mary's I believe. This gives me something to follow up.

Many thanks

Tom

Thanks for the census record links, I have reviewed these previously, but I have not been able to find a birth, baptism or marriage record for either William  or Mary.

Hi I am also interested in the Kelly Family from Westport, Co Mayo. I have a William Kelly born around 1848 and his wife Mary Malley based on the 1901 and 1911 Census records. The lived for a time on Castlebar street and then later on the FairGreen. William was involved in 1915 in the funeral car business and a pub. The had a number of children which I know about but no other details. Any added info would be much appreciated.

To add a bit more detail, William and Mary had a lot of Children, approx. 11, I believe, the were

John b. 1862
Elizabeth b.1866
Edward b. 1870
Thomas b. 1722 d. 1872
Mary Ellen b. 1874 m. 1896 John Wilson
Margaret b. 1876
Catherine (Kate) b. 1878 m. 1904 William Gunning
Grace & Alfred b. 1880, Alfred d. 1881
Thomas b. 1883
Martin b. 1886

Son Edward (Ned) took over Funeral car Business after 1915 as William is mentioned at the bottom of this article in 1915 :-
