Unfortunately, Denise, I haven't been able to find any new information about our ancestors in Ireland. Like you, we have plenty of information on the descendants in Nova Scotia and across North America.

If you have access, I have all of the information that I've gathered on a tree on Ancestry. Feel free to contact me again so that we can share our common interest about the Cunninghams.

Fife / DUNCAN, William; (1818 - 1894); Fife, Scotland
« on: Wednesday 06 August 14 23:41 BST (UK)  »
Wanting to make contact with anyone researching William DUNCAN (born 22 Jul 1818, Ramornie, Fife - died 11 May 1894, Muirside, Fife) and either of his two wives -- Janet FIFE (Fyfe) (born before 17 Jan 1815, Cults, Fife - died between 1851 & 1855) or Ann (Annie) HAXTON (born c1833, Newburn, Fife - died 27 Nov 1905, Collessie, Fife).

William & Janet Fife married 23 May 1841 @ Kettle, Fife and had children David (1841 - 1922), William (1843 - 1933), Janet (1846 - 1918), Catherine (1848 - 1884) and Ann(e) (1851 - unknown).

William & Ann Haxton married 24 Feb 1855 @ Kingsbarns, Fife and had children Christina (1856 - 1881), John (1857 - unknown), Robert (our ancestor) (1859 - 1941), Andrew (1861 - 1946), Divinnie (Divina) (1864 - 1877), James (1866 - 1946), Helen (1868 - unknown), Agnes (1870 - 1949), Alexander (1873 - 1905), and Mary (1878 - unknown).

Would appreciate any family history and photos to fill in blanks on this line of our family tree.

Once again Forfarian, thank you very much for stopping at Bridgend and providing the photo.

As I, unfortunately, don't have the funds and/or the time to travel to Scotland to tromp through the regions of my ancestors, everyone who takes the time to provide us with information about those areas is greatly appreciated.  If it wasn't for people like you, we would spend a lot more time banging our heads against those proverbial 'brick walls'.

Thank you Forfarian for taking the time to stop and take the photo ---- this looks like a lovely, modern, home.  I've found so many places called "Bridgend" while doing the research but cannot find anything that states, absolutely, where Bridgend Cottage, Alvah is/was. This will suffice until I get a "bee in my bonnet" again about finding out exactly where Grandma was born.

Not a problem Colin.  I know how frustrating those births/marriages/deaths before statutory recording can be.

If you are a member of Ancestry, my public tree, Peterson - Dumas 2014(1), is available there and you will find all of the information that I have about the Reid family to date.  I work in Family Tree Maker and 'sync' FTM to Ancestry on a regular basis so if I happen to find anything more it will be updated later.

Best of luck with all of your searching.  I will keep you in mind if I come across anyone that I think might be of interest to you and hope you would do the same.

Joanne :)

Renfrewshire / Re: Mearns Kirkyard Cemetery, Renfrew

I've also tried to search this particular site to no avail.  I contacted the church and received a reply, part of which I've copied below.  It appears that there is a definite problem with the site but they are working to rectify it.  Keep trying  :D

Thank you for your email. Yes the project recording information about the gravestones and graveyard at Mearns Kirk was finished several years ago. The church took over hosting of the website from the group which carried out the work but we've had real problems with the internet service provider which is why you're having difficulty. The graveyard web pages can now be accessed via the church website at www.mearnsparishkirk.co.uk however, while the majority of the site is recovered, the pages about individual graves are still in process of being reinstated. We have someone working on this. So apologies for the difficulty you're having.

I was also advised that there is a second cemetery nearby --- There is another old graveyard in this area, not far from the church, called Mearns Cemetery. We have no information about this graveyard which is cared for by East Renfrewshire Council so I suggest that you contact the council at http://www.eastrenfrewshire.gov.uk/index.aspx?articleid=1718 or search Google under Mearns Cemetery, Glasgow.

Hope this is of assistance to anyone presently searching for monuments of ancestors here.

Good day colincam:

Unfortunately, I'm not sure that I can be of any assistance to you at this time.  I do have a John Reid born c1746 (place unknown) and died 1850 Auchterless.  He married Jane Pratt (birth and death info unknown).  Their son John born 1781 Fyvie and died 1861 Auchterless married Margaret Brandy born 1790 Auchterless and died 1822 Auchterless.

I don't have any other children listed for the John Reid/Jane Pratt family other than John (b1781) but this family would be the most likely to be related to your Agnes if a positive connection could be made.  Do you happen to know who her parents were and/or when she married and died?  Who was her husband, if there was one?

Please let me know if you can provide any other information because without more I can't help you.  The earliest Agnes I have in my tree is one born in 1847 who was a granddaughter of the John Reid/Margaret Brandy union.  If naming patterns were followed, it would be quite possible that John Reid (b1781) had a sister Agnes.

Aberdeenshire / Re: HERON, Gilbert Jr and REID, Lilly Jane

Yes, flst, I have found what we assume are census records for Lilly and some of her children as well as the one for 1911 which includes her, the legitimate children, her husband and some of the illegitimate children.  It appears, however, that our grandmother, Lizzie Ann Reid (born 1892), did not live with Lilly in 1901 or 1911.

The family trees on Ancestry which show our grandparents and great grandparents have been uploaded by myself, a cousin, a distant relative in the United States and those distant relatives I've mentioned who live in Australia so we have shared between us what little information each of the others know.  We are still trying to find out about Elsie and William who were Lilly Jane and Gilbert's children.
