Antrim / Male Agnew Descendants of the Kilwaughter Castle Family
« on: Saturday 10 June 23 18:37 BST (UK)  »
Please help determine who the Agnew residents of Kilwaughter Castle were.   If you descend from them or are an Agnew whose family has resided in close proximity over a period of time you can help determine an accurate history of the Castle Agnews.

A recently published paper*  delves into the history of the inhabitants of the Kilwaughter Castle/Demesne.  In conjunction with the article, a DNA project has been created to determine who the Agnews were, O'Gneeves ( O Gnimh) or Lochnaw Agnews.

Y-DNA has shown there are two major Agnew lines.  If you are a male Agnew you can assist in creating an accurate history of Kilwaughter through participation.   Submissions by those who believe they descend from the residents of the Castle or those Agnews whose ancestors lived in proximity to it will be considered.

Ten combination kits (Male 37 marker Y-DNA with Family Finder for the same individual) are
available free to the first ten participants living in the U.K. Email: kilwaughteragnews@gmail.com

Thomas Joseph Agnew was born May 25, 1925 and grew up in Craiginorne.   In 1953 he emigrated to South Australia where he died in 2012.   Tom returned to Ireland when his brother Robert Daniel Agnew died 31 January 1986 and was buried in Ballygowan RC Church Cemetery along with his parents Robert Daniel and Mary (Campbell) Agnew.  Tom stayed for a couple of months while settling his brother's affairs and visiting friends and relatives before returning to Australia.   Thomas said he had two great grandfathers both named Daniel Agnew.  When Thomas died in 2012 in Australia his affairs were settled by a cousin.

I would like to know more about this family since DNA has indicated I am related to a number of Agnews in Australia.   I am trying to determine if I could be related to Thomas' line.

I appreciate any help you can provide.

Antrim / Coleman-Agnew marriage 1810
« on: Thursday 21 December 17 16:29 GMT (UK)  »
I have searched everywhere in an effort to learn more about James Coleman of Ballybentrah who married Mary Agnew of Donegore Hill in 1810.    The marriage was listed in Walker's Hibernian Magazine.   Does anyone have any additional information regarding this couple?

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Regards,

Helena,

I am interested in Andrew A. Ross and wife Jane Snoddy who had son Thomas 1831 in Ballynure.   Their relations turned up in Upstate NY around 1800.    I have relations in the Ballynure area and would like to hear from you.

Hello,

I have researched some of the surnames you mentioned along with Agnew connections.   There is a PRONI will :  The Will of David Elliott late of Headwood Kilwaughter County Antrim Farmer deceased who died 21 August 1877    In it Anne is mentioned as his wife.    I thought this might help you sort the family.    I have done a lot of research of Ballyeaston families and it was not unusual to find some married in the Headwood/Ballynure area.

If you know of any relationships with the Agnews I would like to hear about it.  My Agnews appear to be connected to Gardners and McAllisters.
