Oh that's a shame, chatters are pretty good at recognising scenes.

I did come across this and as you probably know Gateshead is not that far from Felling

It's one idea unless someone has better knowledge :)

Hi

Is the postcard plain or does it have a scene on the front?

Hi Julie

"Not sure of how it would have been used as the middle piece is held to the backing plate with two bits of wire pushed through similar to a staple effect"

It sounds as though it held some kind of a pin and could be a helmet plate, but which one I'm afraid I don't know.

Where did it come from (i.e. a relative), could it be traced that way?

Dear Evie

Have just had another look at the 1851 census & the transcript has the final daughter as ? ? unmarried aged 23 and born 1828 - don't think this is correct though - looks like they have picked up another number circled on top as her age.

Best wishes

Maria  :)

Yes I see what you mean, I think it is some sort of count when the census was checked.

Just an update Heather - see post below

It all seems as though it's coming together nicely.

Brilliant thanks everyone :)

John was definitely a shoemaker, lots of info here. Children's baptisms, Hannah's maiden name and marriage.

Heather also found a baptism for son Thomas - see this post

So we just need Charles and the youngest daughter now - unknown name or age.

I wonder what happened to Elizabeth as she wasn't on the 1841 census with parents.

Thanks again all

Evie
