Yorkshire (West Riding) Lookup Requests / Re: Almondbury Baptism Records
« on: Saturday 07 August 10 20:34 BST (UK)  »
Thanks for looking up those names.  I'll keep a note of all of them.  The entry for Joseph born 1/2/1810 could be a possiblity though.  Joseph's eldest son was John (I know theres probably hundreds of them!) he could have named him after his father - I might find something out that could tie the names together.  I know Joseph moved from Almondbury to Leeds but I don't know if this was as an adult or with his parents.  I'll look to see if I can find a John and Martha Hinchliffe of the right age on any of the censuses that might give any clues.  Thanks you again for taking the time and trouble to do this both of you!

Please could some one look up a baptism for Joseph Hinchliffe?  He was born in Almondbury around 1812 (based on the 1841 census).
Thanks

Elin thank you so much for taking the trouble.  Thomas also worked as a cloth dresser.  I'll send my e-mail address to you.

Thanks Pauline,
unfortunately I live in Ireland so I can't check the records myself.

Yorkshire (West Riding) / Re: Dewsbury Pictures
« on: Monday 06 July 09 12:40 BST (UK)  »
Tim, thanks so much for sharing these photos.  I moved to Dewsbury in the early '70's when I was 5 (now live in Ireland) and these bring back so many memories.  I remember the new bus station being built but looking at these pictures I have no idea how so much major work was afforded!  Dewsbury is a bit shabby in parts but there is still so much wonderful Victorian architecture.  One thing though - does anyone know what that old building is next to the Parish church?  It looks kind of like a typical haunted house.  I don't know if it is where the "new" swimming pool now is (i.e. the one they built about 35 years ago).

Yorkshire (West Riding) Lookup Requests / Marriage look up - St Peters, Leeds

Please could someone check out a marriage for me?  On the LDS site there is a marriage record for Sarah Walmsley and Joseph Hinchliff on 15th March 1830 at St Peters in Leeds. These are my greatx3 grand parents.
If anyone has a chance could you look this up and see if there is any more information such as parents of either, witnesses etc?
Also there is a record for a christening for a Thomas Hinchliff on 27th July 1834 to Joseph and Sarah Hinchliff at St peters in Leeds.  I'm presuming this is their son, my greatx2 grandfather.  If possible could someone check this record too??
Thanks

Dublin / Re: Married twice?

I wondered that myself - I'll have to plan a trip to the NLI to look at the parish records.  I hope one of them was Church of Ireland, it would be a bit easier tracing back then.

They were as far as I know (everyone else in the family was) - thats what I couldn't understand.  Why not just have the Church wedding?

Dublin / Married twice?
« on: Friday 15 May 09 22:30 BST (UK)  »
Can anyone think of a reason why the same two people might get married twice within a fortnight?
My great great grandparents, Mary Anne Moore and Michael Branagan got married on 27th May 1877 at the Registry Office, Dublin.  Then they married again at St Michaels (not clear writing) on 10th June 1877.  The fathers names and occupations are the same on both certs so I know they are definitely the same two people.  Seems a bit odd.
