1911 census, Mary Smith c 1866 is a visitor aged 45 with 2 sons (as Below) in the household of an Albert Smith aged 49 and his wife in Stretford, Lancs. (Possibly Thomas Smith's brother, both born same place)

Free search of 1921 census shows Thomas and Mary together

I think you have the wrong year for the birth of Margaret's mother. Should it be 1866?
My apologies. Mary Smith's dob is 1866 and not 1886 as I originally wrote.

Margaret was born 3Q 1890 in Tydesley (Leigh), was married twice (Sir George Holden on 11 Jun 1913 in Astley and then to Joseph Henry Wright on 28 Feb 1946 in Astley) and died on 22 Mar 1955 in Wigan. I'm trying to learn more about Margaret's mother, Mary, listed in the 1901 census for Peel Hall, Astley, as Mary Smith, born in 1886 in Accrington. Although the 1911 census lists her spouse, Thomas Smith, as being married, Mary is not listed as resident at this property, Peel Hall, Astley. Would find Mary Smith's maiden name very useful.

Am trying to identify the brewery on Bailey Street referred to in the following news cuttings:-

Public Notices (Oswestry Advertiser, 08 & 15 August 1877)

I, JOSEPH JACKSON, of Whittington Lodge, in the parish of Whittington, in the County of Salop, Brewer, do hereby give notice that it is my intention to apply at the General Annual Licensing Meeting, to be held at the Guildhall in the Borough of Oswestry aforesaid, on Friday, the 31st day of August instant, for a Certificate of Justices to hold an Additional Excise Licence to Sell Beer by Retail to be consumed off the premises, at the Brewery situate in or abutting on Bailey-street, in the borough of Oswestry aforesaid, and now in my occupation, in pursuance of the Act 26 and 27 Victoria, cap. 33, section 1, and the Acts amending the same.

Given under my hand this 7th day of August, One Thousand Eight Hundred and Seventy-seven.
JOSEPH JACKSON.

Licensing Session (Oswestry Advertiser, 05 September 1877)

There were no objections offered to the renewal of any of the licences, which were all renewed. Some were altered to six-days licences, the Recorder saying that he considered those who took six-days licences benefactors to the town.-Mr. Whitfield applied on behalf of Mr. Joseph Jackson, brewer, Bailey-street, for a retail licence to sell off the premises, which was granted.

Hi, Find My Past have a Record Set called "New South Wales Will Books 1800-1952"

There is not a record of a Will for Edwin, however there are details of  Mary Catherine's will. Seems that Mary had the property not Edwin, as she made provisions for her husband to be provided with a comfortable Home out of her estate, and if any remained to be equally divided between her son and Daughter.

Cass

Edwin Kay (1852-1929) married Mary Catherine Mansley (of the well-known and successful Leigh-based rope works family) on 5 November 1873, in Leigh. Not too surprised therefore to learn from his wife's will where the wealth of the partnership lay.

Thank you to Jamjar and CassT for their replies.

Edwin Kay (1852-1929) was employed by the Leigh-based brewery, "George Shaw and Co., Ltd., Leigh Brewery". I would particularly welcome information on this connection.
