Hi

I don't have my files with me but looking at my earlier post I think I have recorded all the information that I was given.  I will check but if I don't get back to you it means I don't have anything else.

Kind regards

Julie

Thank you the snooper, that certainly looks a likely bet.  Now to decide on my priorities as to the next certificate I buy....Mrs Stephens or Mr & Mrs Williams...aah, decisions, decisions!  ;D

(Note to self - Must now look at the boards/t'internet to see if the death certs at that time had any really useful info...haven't bought any death certs from that early before  :-\)

Thanks again

Julie

Herefordshire Lookup Requests / Rowland Stephens - marriage
« on: Sunday 13 April 08 15:56 BST (UK)  »
Hi

I'm into the realms of mystery for me!

I would really appreciate info, if there is any, on the marriage of Rowland Stephens (various spellings found!) to Ann.

He came from the Burghill area, I believe, but children seem to have been born Hentland/Harewood End (?).  The first child (Eliza) was christened and died in 1824.  I have Rowland in 1841 (I think) HO107, Piece 433, Book 2, Folio 22, Page 11, but it would appear that Ann has passed away by then, as there is no trace of her.  Nothing concrete to be found in the formal registers. (Although with so many variations in the spellings I can't be sure I've looked for them all  :-\ ).

Any help or advice would be much appreciated.

Regards

Julie

Note: edited to correct typo re death!

Hi Heather

I don't know about anyone else, but there is no way I could afford to buy all the certs.  I only buy the ones that either add info, such as a maiden name or father's details, or to prove...or even disprove a theory.  Might not be purist, but it keeps me sane and solvent!  ;D (Until I win the lottery...what do you mean I have to buy a ticket first?...rats...that's where I've been going wrong...)

I think you should just do what you want (I presume you are just doing it for your own interest.)  It's a hobby and for the most part supposed to be pleasure ???. (Although I really believe masochism (spl?) is a strong driver for most of us!  ;D)

Regards

Julie

One of the things I wish I had, I could actually have had, which makes it all the more annoying/upsetting.  To explain - my great aunt (by marriage) died about 25 years ago.  She had no children, but a lot of family...at the funeral it was absolutely terrible, they were like vultures...seriously, and I was really upset by it all.  I was told to take something, but I couldn't bear to, I was just so disgusted by the behaviour (I hasten to add that my mum and dad were as horrified as I was and kept well out of the 'rumaging').

The thing is she had loads and loads of family photos.  I had spent hours of my childhood pouring over them...simply wish I had taken them, because I'm certain they were thrown away.

The other thing is also a photo of great grandad Webb.  My mum remembers it from her childhood, but her gran died when she was a teenager, and she has no idea what happened to it.  I'd love to see what he looked like as he has given me a merry chase the last few years..pinned him down now though, thanks to some wonderful RootsChatters!!  ;D

Wales / Re: William Williams' in Wales...Is he a lost cause?

Probably a stupid question, but would Jane have been in the workhouse in 1901 (with or without daughters)?

Tried looking for it, but I don't know Yorkshire....know Coalbrookvale though!  ;D

Just a point as a follow up to Osprey's point about comparing signatures on certs...the Register Offices around here (Gwent) tend to provide handwritten transcriptions of certs...not always 100% accurate, but very quick (and I have had some truly excellent help from them...can't praise them enough...and no I don't have any shares!  ;D).  I suppose they might provide a photocopy if you ask...or am I missing the point...won't be the first time.

(And I still can't find James Snr in '71  >:( or did someone find him already?  :-[)

It must be that because the alternative means my subconcious has some really wierd freudian slips.

Whilst reading various census pages I have been horrified at the descriptions/jobs.  Even for such unenlightened times I thought describing someone as a 'mad labourer' was harsh...until I realised it was road labourer  :-[

But 'child poisoner'...how on earth...oh, Chelsea pensioner  :-X

Whilst reading registers just now came across the name Alien Smart...doh...ALLEN  ::)

Please tell me it's not just me...it is?...oh...I'll fetch me coat  :-[ ;D

Thanks for the info.  Will print your post and follow it and hopefully not make too much of a mess!  ;D

(Aren't computers wonderful?...Although not really fair to blame an inanimate and useful object for my ineptitude  ??? ...they are certainly more useful than I am at the mo!  ;D)

Seriously, thanks downside, I was facing an uphill struggle!
