My great grandfather attended this school in the 1880’s/90’s & I wondered if any school records survived anywhere from around that time.  Thanks.

Hi Nicky
Just found this old post & was curious as to your connection with this Traynor family.  I have just written a short biography of one of the descendants.
Regards
Leigh
(My mother was a Traynor but unrelated)

Hi Squire
Just found this old post (my mother was a Traynor) & thought you might be interested in visiting the Tr’n’r group on Facebook (if you ‘do’ facebook) or the Tr’n’r website - www.treinfhir.org.  There are also various dna projects.

Devon Lookup Requests / Re: Exeter birth or baptism - Traynor

Thanks both.
Yes, there are a lot of Traynors in Scotland - & Liverpool.  It’s an Irish name & lots of immigration from Ireland at this time.  It is possible that James is Irish, as I appreciate that this was often something immigrants might have tried to disguise around that time.  In fact his son - John - is quoted as saying that he (John) is Irish born of Irish parents.  However, John was born in Lichfield & his mother Caroline was born in Brighton.  I’ve also not pinned down either of their deaths (James & Caroline).  Ho hum!

Thanks Rosie.  I think I must assume that Exeter is not correct.

Devon Lookup Requests / Exeter birth or baptism - Traynor

Looking for the birth/baptism of James Traynor.

The records I have found give a variety of dates but he consistently gives place of birth as Exeter & he did live in Torquay for some time, but also moved around the country a lot.  I do not know where he died.  Unfortunately, judging by what else I have found, POB as Exeter may prove to be a fabrication but it’s all I have to go on at present.

Per marriage certificate (Jan 1851, Salisbury) DOB 1831, father John Traynor (sailmaker)
Per 1861 census, DOB 1833
Per 1871 census, DOB 1833
Per 1891 census, DOB 1840

He was Catholic but the RC churches in Exeter seem to have been established after his DOB so I don’t know where to check for possible baptismal records & too early for FreeBMD.

Thanks for looking.
(Also thanks again to those who previously helped me locate his children)

Thanks Mabel - just found him!  Parents were in an Inn in Cumberland in 1861 so would make sense that children weren’t with them.
