I got caught out with that the last time I went, didn't know they had changed the system. So this time already booked. Thanks for reminder.

I will be back in Glasgow next week, so can pop in to the Michell and see what I can find out for you. Hope that helps.

Nice to get the expert opinion on what might have happened. My own take was totally different and nowhere near the 'official' take. Thanks, will look out those books too. Would there be any records of the 'accident' held within the Bty/Regt, ie inquest type of thing?

On a side note, I know Richard is mentioned on a couple of memorials in London, he is also named on a plaque for the Bty in Exeter Cathedral, any ideas on the connection there?

Again, thanks for the insight.

Hi

trying to trace info on Driver 23158 Richard Dempster, 73 Bty RFA who died on 13 Mar 1900 due to drowning in Klip River. In particular looking for details of his enlistment if poss. He may/may not be a missing relative but need to establish his birth place/parents etc.

I have seen info on memorial plaque, but just name / number

R.F. collar 'dogs' have a more rounded plume. The difference between Royal Engineers/ Royal Artillery as far as I remember is RE has 9 plumes, RA has 7. Cant make out from image which, but would def say either RE or RA.

Hi

had a look around this morning, no sign of headstone, sorry. I did take a quick phone image to show the lair position, marked by 'borrowed' flowers.

There is a lair with the name Murray nearby, 12 lairs away. I will pm you with details/photo of that .. just in case it might tie in.

ps. 'borrowed' flowers replaced after image taken!

looking at section/lair numbers I would say this is in St Peter's. I'm down there tomorrow (Tuesday) so will have a look to see if I come across it
