Sorry to drag this old thread up again but l have had updated information.

Seems that Alfred Ernests father (also Alfred) did indeed marry Rachel Langley. Rachel and her husband went on to have l believe 6 children, there was however NO Wilfred, my dad suddenly remembered that 'Wilf' may have been a great uncle and not a brother of my grandad (Alfred Jnr). Rachel's parents are as you said William and Mary.

Alfred snr however was not named after his dad, l have now been told that his father was called Richard! Also the surname, Richard Hopkins - l do know that the 's' was dropped after Richard as my grandad used to hate anyone adding the 's' to his surname.

So sorry! there was no Wilf which led us astray. Now l need to figure out roughly which year Richard was married to obtain a certificate, l am about to search census records as now l am determined to figure out exactly when the 's' was dropped.

No doubt l shall find a few more surprises.

Rachel.

Yorkshire (East Riding & York) / Re: Public (rail) footbridge - Holderness Road, Hull
« on: Thursday 27 December 07 11:15 GMT (UK)  »
Hi!
l live near Holderness Road, the only over road rail track l know of ever being there is near cleveland street, the line is only used to transport coal from the docks now. lf you know of the exact location of any other tracks that may have been there l can take a look and see what info l can get.

There was a rail track many years back running through Marfleet avenue/lane side of hull. The walkway is still there where the track used to be and there is a bridge which goes over the old track.  This track would have at some point crossed holderness road but l have never taken the time to follow it and see exactly where it leads.

l know it went as far as withernsea in the other direction.

Dont know if this helps.

Free Photo Restoration & Date Old Photographs / Robert William?
« on: Monday 16 April 07 10:41 BST (UK)  »
Good Morning!

This fellow has caused quite a stir within my family tree. So any info from the pic would be a breath of fresh air!!

Both images are scanned from the original, l would really like to print the first image for my grandad (its his father) but l think it could do with a touch up here and there.

Also if it is at all possible could anyone tell me their views on the rough time line? lm attempting to find out which ship he served on, l cannot read the writing on the back which may (or may not) give any clues abut him.

The photos are already uploaded to my own web space so l hope lm doing no wrong in providing a link rather then uploading them here. l have scanned them as a safety precaution.

Many thanks in advance.

Hello again!

Sorry to be such a pain l wasnt sure where to put the link to the pics so lve put it under photo restoration if anyone wanted to take a look.

Another update,

One thing my grandad never mentioned until yesterday, He is one of twins. His brother was 'sent away' and when my grandad tried to trace him (grandad said he was in his late 20's when he tried to find his brother) his mum Ethel told him it was none of his business!

lm still doing the 'ship' hunt and await replies from some messages lve sent.
l am also going to try trace the 'twin'.
