Lancashire Completed Lookup Requests / Re: Missing Ancestor
« on: Thursday 13 November 08 10:36 GMT (UK)  »
Hi Tipps

There's a transcript of the Rivington CE Church records on Angelfire which is where I got most of the details of the Sale's from. For The Non-Con I got hold of the booklet transcibing the records by Joan Holding/Colin Rogers. Is your info different to those?

Thanks for your interest.

Regards, Lee.

Lancashire Lookup Requests / 1841 Sandiford
« on: Thursday 04 September 08 17:19 BST (UK)  »
Hi,

I'm looking for the following Sandiford family on the '41:

Thomas Sandiford b.?
Jane b.1797 (Wigan or Rivington) - wife

Children;

James b.1820 Adlington
Joseph b.1827(?) Adlington
Hannah b.1821 Adlington
Sarah b.1824 Blackrod
Ellen b.1830 Salford
William b.1834 Salford

Jane was a widow on the '51 at 189 Fleet Street, Salford so a strong possibility family resident Salford on the '41. sorry - have no details for Thomas.

Faint possibility they may be connected to a Sale/Bowers family group who were resident at Bombay Street in Salford in '41.

Many thanks.

Hi Jill and Oldtimer,

That's fantastic - many thanks for your help - would never have got some of the trickier words. I wonder if "compl" is "complaint"? Still stuck with the "farmed a tenmt etc" as the end looks like Ann (the right sweep looks like the same as the "n" in "Magna").

Thanks again.

See you, Lee.

The Common Room / Speakman Document COMPLETED
« on: Friday 26 October 07 14:25 BST (UK)  »
Hi,

Have this document referring to my g+ grandfather and having trouble decyphering certain words. Document titled "marriage settlement of Henry and Elizabeth Speakman" . They were married 1/11/1717 Flixton and clearly moved to Astley only to be sent to Worsley. Document seems to be fairly straightforward enforcement of the Poor Law whereby the birth parish is responsible for their welfare however words I can't read seem significant together with title of document itself - seems like they were sent before they became destitute (?).

Any help would be greatly appreciated - tempted to include my own transcription but would like to see what someone more experienced makes of it!

Many thanks.
