When i first started researching my family history ,first my adopted family and latterly my biological family i never expected to find living siblings,It was quite an Blimey moment.I have no need to know why I was put up for adoption,.the others of my family did not know of me but my sister is so happy that i have appeared.I may not have any known history with them but I am family.Family history research is fascinating but can reveal things you never knew or imagined but it is all part of lives rich tapestry and finding family you did not know is AMAZING

After putting my biological family tree on Ancestry .co.uk,well what I could find,I was contacted by a lady who it turns out is my younger sister.there is actually a big family,I was not known of by this lady,we have messaged and spoken and it is such an amazing discovery.I must say I am so glad that I`ve found more family at the age of 71 I thought it unlikely to find anyone.I always knew I was adopted and now find I have other siblings out there.well onwards and upwards.

Having researched my adoptive family I have now started to look into my biological family.I was born A Alcroft in 1951,my mother was an Alice Alcroft. The Alcroft family were connected to Birkenhead ,Paisley,Ayr and Prestwick. As a 71 yr old this research is mainly for my children,if they are ever interested, but i am curious as to where I come from.

pleased you are able to restart your research.I would spend some time going through the information you already have, there maybe something you want to check out further and you don`t want to find you are searching for info you already have.Keep an eye open for free weekends and offers ,people on this forum usually let us know when they are available.

I had a few bdm certificates, but what got my interest was a family story that my dads father, who I never knew, had run off to Canada and joined the mounties. My research revealed the true story,he went to Canada in 1911 returning with the Canadian Exp. Force beginning of WW1 as a private in the 4th Canadian Mounted Rifles,he married g/mother in 1915 before he went to France. He settled back in Scotland but in 1920 went to Canada and then USA looking for work.He sadly died in Detroit in 1935,g/mother never joined him.
