Thank you both for taking the trouble to respond.
I think I'll probably take the professional help route. Just to confuse matters, the patriarch  Thomas Henry Rowe, born 1847 in Cornwall named his son - born 1870 -  likewise, and he his son.  So there are three T H R's out there somewhere, all died in Johannesburg, the last in 1950.
Thanks again for your replies.

I've found my Thomas Henry Rowe - my grandma's brother who left Cornwall for Johannesburg around 1890 - on the NAAIRS database and have a reference, volume number etc... but I have no idea how to relate this information to seeing the document referred to. Any help would be appreciated.

Hello everyone

I've been silent for many months but I am still trying to trace Rowes and Milletts who went out to Johannesburg around the turn of the last century. Right now I'd appreciate a little help with regard the NAAIRS database.

Given that using the TAB database I have made a hit with a reference, volume number etc... what do I do to access the documents referred to?

Best wishes

Dear Colin & Deb

It's been so long since I took a look at the RootsChat site I'd forgotten how to post a message. Yes, I'm still looking for my S.A. relatives. What irks me somewhat is the fact that I had all the relevant addresses (in Johannesburg) to hand just five years ago but lost them somewhere along the line after my wife died.

Best regards to you

Thanks for the reply Ruth. I completely forgot that I had these details, knew I had them somewhere; I finally came across them with flamenco guitar transcriptions!

Thomas Henry jnr married Rachel Magdalena Swanepul (not sure of the spelling, it isn't in my writing) b.1878. d. 03.03.43. They had four children Another - would you believe? - Thomas Henry who married Henrietta Ann Taylor. Ann, b. 23.04.1897 - I have her in the group photo of 1902 - who married Michael Petrus. Phyillis Ester b.02.04.1899, who married William Wardrop Dixon, b.27.07.1886 at Shipley Gate. Notts. UK. and Theodora Stephany, b. 16.06.1904, she married Walter Pain. Can't believe I had these details, it isn't my mothers writing. Maybe an example of magic writing?

Thanks again for being interested Ruth.

Haven't tried this before so if I'm infringing a protocol bear with me. I have been fortunate enough to have been in touch with Colin who has helped me a good deal regarding this branch of my family. My great grandpa was the Thomas Henry Snr. in question. He went out to SA at sometime in the 1890's. His wife, Philis (or Phillis, or Phyllis...) Harry Rowe, nee Wright, was supposed to join him there but refused to go. Maybe seen as being unreasonable now, but given that she had never left the county of Cornwall in all her 87 years, I guess one could understand her reluctance to make the trip.

This SA connection fascinates me because I was led to believe T H snr. had abandoned his family and had split to SA to get away from it all.  All untrue of course. One of Thomas Henry jnr daughter married a Dixon. I beleive that branch are alive and well living in the Johannesburg area.
