Hi

Trying to find a Wassell in the 1841 census - William Wassell b.1818 and his daughter Ann Elizabeth Wassell b.1838. In 1838 they are living in St Thomas district of Birmingham on Thorpe St but then his wife dies 1839.

In 1843 he remarries in Handsworth so I'm hoping he might show up in the Staffs 1841 census and by 1848 is living in St Thomas again in Windmill Hill.

He is a brass founder and so far Wassell has shown up in other census as Hassell, Wassal, Warsel etc!!

Thanks!

Cool - I'm looking for the following:

1841 and 1851 in Cheltenham: Valentine and Hephzibah Cooper (can't be too many of them around!). Their address in 1861 was 264 High St, Cheltenham.

1841 in Minchinhampton or surrounds: George Daniels and wife Elinor (could possibly be in Horsley as that is where they married in 1838); Thomas Daniels and wife Mary

1841 in Horsley: Daniel Neale, wife Ann, children Charlotte, Daniel, Lucretia, Ann, Samuel, Elinor and Jane.

Thanks for any help you can give.

Gloucestershire / 1841 and 1851 resources online?

Hi

Trying to track down some families in Minchinhampton, Horsley and Cheltenham in the 1840's. Being based in NZ, I was wondering what resources are available online or that can be ordered online?

Also I've checked out Minchinhampton and Horsley using the online 1851 census info - is there anything available for Cheltenham too?

Any help much appreciated.

Shropshire / Re: Carters in Ludlow - advice wanted!

Hi again

Oooh - it would be great if you could look for them in the 1851 / 41 census - if it isn't too much of a mission. I too drew a blank on the 1861 census. I don't know when they died but it may be worth a shot.

I have the Warwickshire 1851 census and three of the children come up in that in Birmingham - Thomas, Edward and Mary. More difficult to trace the other girls as they may have married (there are two Eliza's from Ludlow of the right age but no Harriets)and there is no trace of the son John Carter or either John or Catharine. It would seem Mary Carter moved to Birmingham pre-1841 - her first child born 1839 was born in Birmingham (interestingly they weren't married until 1843 though...).

Many thanks again -  I didn't realise that Ludlow was famous for glove making - I'll have to read up on it.

Cheers

Hi John

Thanks for this - and for taking the time to look things up for me (I'm in New Zealand so MUCH appreciated!)

John Carter's profession I know - glove cutter. This was on his daughter's marriage certificate (Mary bn 1819 is the one whose footsteps I'm following).

The details on Catharine I got from the IGI where there is a record of Mary's christening. Unfortunately it only gave Catharine's first name on the IGI and nothing else.

So two possibilities for John's parentage - I suppose it could be worse!! It is a pity we can't work out which John it was that died in 1795.

Thanks again for all your help and I'll keep my thinking cap on,

Jenny

Thank you very much for your help and the look ups - I've followed each of your suggestions and zilch. However there is a possibility that Caroline was only 16/17 when she gave birth in 1874 so maybe they didn't marry. I've read through some of the boards and it seems to be quite common.

Unfortunately leaves me less than a 100% certain that the Caroline Haywood I'm looking into is the right Caroline...

Thanks again for helping out.

Jenny
