The Common Room / Archibald Kyle Stocks
« on: Saturday 11 March 23 16:13 GMT (UK)  »
I have been doing some genealogy sessions with some students and one young lady is already stuck with hers.
I have tried to find her more on her gg grandfather but can only find his marriage and death. I suspect as his middle name was Kyle that it was a possibility his original surname but that is a guess.
His name was Archibald Kyle Stocks who was born on 24Th Feb 1916 and he got married in Ipswich Suffolk in 1943 to Mabel Single, he died still in Ipswich in 1991 .
I was also wondering if these names are Scottish which is why we are struggling to find a birth or census for him.
Any help would be most appreciated, I am really trying to keep his enthusiasm going and a brick wall so early is not helping :

Hi my Spall side start in Parham Suffolk , they move to Framlingham and then branch out but it was much later than 1726 .
The actor Timothy Spall and my mum share the same gg grandfather

The Common Room / Anne Butler was she transported ?
« on: Saturday 20 November 21 20:57 GMT (UK)  »
I have been looking into a friends family but am stuck on Anne. The first record I have on her is her marriage in Sydney Australia to John George Pickering in 1866 . I then have her in Wales on the 81 census and looking at the births of all their children they travelled alot as John was in the military.
On the census she puts born 1845 Dublin but I cannot find anything for her ,ancestry has given me a hint of a prison record for a Anne Butler in Dublin aged 14 and looking at others this Anne Butler was in prison a lot from the aged of 11 for begging :(

Could this be her and she was possibly transported ? I dont have access to  world wide records so any help would be really aappreciated

Family History Beginners Board / Re: Bailey nee Taylor

If you have the correct person on the 1939 reg and the name is crossed out and Buckley added this will be because like someone has already  found on this thread she remarried and they updated the register.
The lady who you are looking for is the Olive Buckley all the records add up .
You can always order the death cert from GRO sometimes they have a little extra info on

Australia / Joseph William Goddard
« on: Friday 19 February 21 16:53 GMT (UK)  »
Hi
I am trying to help a friend do a bio for her grandmother. We have discovered she had a brother Joseph William Goddard born Woolwich on 7th March 21 who we have been told died in Australia about 20 years ago . Could anyone possibly find his death from that information or anything about him as the family know nothing, when he left ,who he married etc
Thank you

Just a quick update. I received the  1938 dert cert today and it had nothing on there to prove it was Bob . It does say formerly of Hampton Road U.D ? I am not sure what the U.D means .It also has he was a former farm labourer which I would expect if it was Bob . The death was registered by someone from the hospital.
I did speak to a lady from Sproughton who wrote the piece for the paper in 1985 ,she wrote it from tales her mother had told her and she wasn't clear when he died but would like me to tell her if I find out.
I was also given the name Serry Cottage for Bobs home too.We have also discovered another postcard with Bob on so they certainly are some still about.
So still blank and no closer to finding him
