transcript of Probate.

KING Irene Violet of. 209 North Circular Road DublIn (wife
of George Synnott King) died 12 October 1958 in a
street in Stafford Administration London 15 March. to
the said George Synnott King salesman.

Effects £90 in England.

I've seen Synott spelt Synott / Synnot / Synnott - may be that's why the marriage record is hard to find ?

what I didn't spot was the birth date, which came from Ancestry, citing Staffordshire BMD records. This shows 1862 as DoB. This suggest she was 96 when she died and 37 years older than her husband. I just checked FindMyPast for the same records, is shows the original entry with age=62, not born 1862!. Better fit, as this would mean born ~1896 and so 3 years older than her husband...

FindMyPast doesn't find a marriage record, but Ancestry does,
NameIrene Violet Kiviatkowski
Date of Registration1932, Oct-Nov-Dec
Registration district
Dundalk, Ireland

thanks for looking for me,

Staffordshire / unusual death ?
« on: Saturday 22 May 21 19:56 BST (UK)  »
Looking for some help with local sources to Stafford. My normal research grounds are Ireland / West Wales / West country, so this is an odd one.
This lady, Irene Violet King (nee Kiviatkowski) is a great Aunt, married in Dundalk Ireland, and had an address in Dublin at the time of her death.
According to the probate records(15 Mar 1960), she died
"12 October 1958 in a street in Stafford"
So she wasn't living there, maybe visiting, but it's an odd description, so I wondered if it made the courts or the local newspapers. Can't find anything on "British Newspapers online", so does any one know of local archive sources that could help ?
 Thanks in advance,
Geoff

Gloucestershire / Cheltenham Racecourse records
« on: Monday 26 October 20 08:12 GMT (UK)  »
I have the marriage certificate of one of my ancestors, Roland George Walters. It states his address in June 1949 as "The Race Course Prestbury". he was 27 years old in 1949.

His father, Reginald Charles Walters, is recorded as being a "Race Course Groundsman" and I assume they would be living together.

Would this make sense ? Was there accommodation for groundsmen / workers at that time at Prestbury ?

Does anyone have, or know of, any records from this period ? ( National Archives ? )

out of interest, in 1939 they were living in Cardiff, Glamorgan, and his father's occupation is listed as "Racecourse : Caretaker & Groundsman (Foreman)"

Thanks in advance,

Geoff

Did you have any luck with Cheltenham Racecourse records ? I've found relatives, "Walters", that apparently lived at the racecourse around 1949.
Thanks in advance,
Geoff

World War Two / Home Guard Association ?
« on: Friday 18 September 20 16:48 BST (UK)  »
I have been sent a spoon by my cousin. He found it in his mum's "stuff". Our dads were brothers, but my dad died in 1987.

It's tea spoon size, with a picture of a motorbike on the front.

On the back it is  engraved H G Trials 1955 Mr G Williams ( my dad was Gordon Williams )

Another family member seems to think there was a Home Guard Motorbike club ( Cheltenham area ), this would explain the HG. Does anyone know anything about this club / association ?
