Ancestral Family Tree DNA Testing / Re: X Match interpretation
« on: Friday 21 December 18 03:22 GMT (UK)  »
Ruskie, any DNA you have including any on the X chromosome has to have come from one of your parents. If your father does not have an X Chr match with LB he can't have passed that segment on to you.
Having stated the obvious, there is a problem with X matches in that they aren't terribly reliable. Anything less than 20cM's is likely to be false.
There has been a study in which several trios of daughter/mother/father matches were examined and it was found in all cases that an X match under 20cM's with the daughter did not have a corresponding match with either parent.

Australia / Re: Ruby Pearl Louder

Freya, are you related to Ruby Louder?
Her mother Alice Simmons was the daughter of James Simmons and Mary Ann Julian.
Mary Ann was the widow of Philip Hocking. They were my great great grandparents.

And to add a "fun fact"...James Roy Hawke as mentioned above, born 1891, had a brother Arthur Clarence Hawke born 1898. Known as Clem, Arthur was the father of Australian Prime Minister, Bob Hawke.
But you probably knew that ;)

Australia / Re: MacIntosh BD&M lookup please SA

Hi Elsie,
We may well have other descendants in the database without knowing of their connection to Angus and Mary. This could mean some existing Families could be linked into your Adelaide2 group. Any information you can provide would be most welcome.
I can message you my email, or you can contact Jay at the website or post the info here or in the Facebook Group - whatever is easiest for you.
Many thanks
Spike

Peter and Ronald MacIntosh are included in the Mackintosh Families of Australia website:
http://mackintosh.org.au/
They are in the Angus MacIntosh (b1796) and Mary MacLean Tree and the Adelaide2 Family in which there are 137 individuals listed.
There is also a Facebook Group associated with the website.

There is a thread relating to Sedonia on the Penwith Genealogy website which might be worth reading

Also, the Match Date column can be sorted to show all matches in date order by clicking on the header.

Ancestral Family Tree DNA Testing / Re: Chromosome shared segments query
« on: Sunday 04 March 18 09:00 GMT (UK)  »
Yes it is. What I do is download all of my matches and my sisters in one hit and my father's. Then I copy the results onto one spreadsheet and work out which ones we have in common with him so the rest are maternal Cornwall or Scotland. I do the same for GEDmatch every day and I've started on MH. I have my mother's matches on a spreadsheet with over 15,000 matches - albeit several duplicates.
You're there  ;). And yes, I need to get a life.

Not sure if I've got the question right, but no DNA test can determine which specific segments you get from which parent. The trick is to work it out for yourself preferably with one or both parents or a close relative. If you tell FTDNA how these people relate to you by where you place them in your DNA tree, your matches will start showing with blue pants or a pink dress. Then when you do an in common with check on a match, the majority should be one side or the other (given that you are showing a bit of Cornish you might find a few people who match on both sides).
Sorry if I didn't answer the question or if you knew all that.
And speaking of chromosome browsers, My Heritage launched theirs yesterday. You can view seven matches at a time (FTDNA only allows five) and you can download all the segments from all the matches - I've got 1800! - to a spreadsheet, which you can also do on FTDNA.
