Gloucestershire Completed Lookup Requests / Re: Chaplin-Chelteham

Hello! I am descended from Albert's sister, Emily. She is my Great-Grandmother. The Thomas Chaplin family was living at 11 Grosvenor Terrace in Cheltenham in 1891. Thomas (head), Sarah A (wife), and children are Albert (10), Francis (9), Zorah (7), Emily (4) and Edith (9mos). I have quite a bit of info on this family. Are you a descendant?

Thank you for this!  It would seem to confirm some suspicions, sadly, although they had three more children together after this.

Does anyone know if records were kept of employees at the Plough, or where I might find them now? I believe my ancestors, Thomas Chaplin and Charles Chaplin, worked there as Flymen/Coachmen in the late 1800s, and early 1900s.

England / Notice of wife's debts in newspaper - courts involved?
« on: Sunday 21 June 15 16:41 BST (UK)  »
In October of 1886, my 2x Great-grandfather (Thomas Chaplin) placed a notice in the paper stating he would not be responsible for his wife's debts (Sarah Ann) as of October 13th. This ran for 5 days in the Gloucestershire Echo. Can anyone tell me if there might be a court involved in this (and thus some paperwork)? Or was this a way to avoid that? They did not go their separate ways for at least 6 years. Can't seem to find an answer or a paper trail. Any help would be much appreciated!

Hello! I'm so glad to see the database again! I found a couple of errors in information for two of my BHC girls and requested to edit (have to get to three postings to message?). I also contributed some of the information on my Great-Grandmother, Emily Chaplin, in the original database, and wondered if I can be added to that? Or should I just be listed as a researcher? The work that you all have done on this is amazing. Thank you!
