Limerick / Dromin Graveyard
« on: Saturday 30 December 17 12:08 GMT (UK)  »
Hi all,

My Great-Grandmother's family (O'Dea) came to Australia from Limerick in the 1850s, having previously resided in the Kilmallock area. The Dromin graveyard has been this particular family's burial ground over the course of the last 200 years. I have all of the information regarding the dates of death & burial going back to my 4x Great Grandparents, but have not been able to contact anybody in Limerick that might be able to take photos of their gravestones for me. Attempts to contact the parish church, of which there is a statue of my 2x Great Grandfather's cousin out the front, have been unsuccessful. Can anybody recommend a service to me that might be able to provided images of my ancestors graves?

No problem, will see if I can get the three people you're after.
Frankton is a small charming village, will take a photo of the church if you want it.
The church has some good information for family researchers
Regards

Thank you so much, that would be wonderful,

The BMSGH have them:

Thanks Jim, however those are only the inscriptions, I actually got my information from that document. I'm trying to find images of the monuments themselves.

Hi all,

My 5x Great-Grandfather, Richard Barrett, was born in the village of Frankton, and baptized at St. Nicholas on the 31st May 1826, the son of Richard Barrett & Sarah Harris, he later migrated to Australia with his wife, Emma Bradford.

I have consulted the monumental inscriptions document for St. Nicholas' Churchyard, and have discovered that many of my ancestors from this parish do have monuments on their graves.
Would it be possible for me to obtain images of these monuments, and if so, how might I go about it?

I am looking for monuments within the churchyard dedicated to the following people, which according to the monumental inscriptions, are present within the churchyard:

Richard Barrett - died 15th May 1845 aged 47 years.
Sarah Barrett (wife of above) - died 28th May 1843 aged 47 years.

Simon Barrett - died September 1801, age unknown, possibly 60 years.
Susannah Barrett (2nd wife of above) - died 18th June 1838 aged 72 years.

Richard Blundell - died May 1803 aged 64 years.
Sarah Blundell (wife of above) - died 2nd April 1809 aged 68 years.

Any assistance or advice would be greatly appreciated.

Funeral notices here, not much info. 23rd of June 1904. Also some info from Rookwood cemetery.

Catherine's death cert?  That gives her father as John and mother Unknown which is why you will see John in other people's trees - however, death records are not always the most reliable source.

The interesting thing would be to find Bridget's death record but I haven't identified the right Bridget Byrne(s) as yet.

I'm looking at a registry for the death of one Bridget Byrne in 1904 at St. Leonards, NSW. Parents are listed as being Margaret and John. This might correspond with Catherine's document regarding the Elphinstone, as it lists Margaret as Catherine's mother, but is not too clear on which of whom was the wife of the deceased Michael, it may have been Margaret or Catherine. As we know from the death cert, Catherine's father is listed as John. If this particular record hasn't been looked into, I would suggest we might have to have a go at it.

I could have saved you some money there.  My cousin has had the had the marriage record for some time.  It is from a Register of Presbyterian marriages and lists the parties, the minister and the 3 witnesses, but not the parents.  Parents' names wouldn't have been required prior to central registrations.

Your post has prompted me to pull out the record and have a look into the witnesses - their names don't immediately mean much.

Ah I see, have only dealt with Victorian registry records previously for the most part, have you seen her death cert. also?

I've just purchased Luke and Catherine's Marriage certificate from the NSW registry, waiting for it to come through, this should give us the information we need on Catherines' parentage.
