Channel Islands Lookup Requests / Re: Thomas Jury BUTLER - Alderney

Yes, his demob date was 1919 so he survived the war. I've been in contact with the Channel Islands Great War Study Group and they've been trying to locate any information about the Thomas BUTLER on the Alderney memorial since 2007. As it was such a common name and they had no details, they weren't able to track him down. I've just sent his service record through to them. I feel there's a good chance it is one and the same Thomas BUTLER.
Kay, thank you as well. I hadn't considered Jersey before and although we can't be sure, how many Thomas BUTLERs could there be, born in Wimbledon about the right age and who weren't accounted for in England on Census night. I note he was a boarder and employed as a quarryman.
I do wonder if his future wife, Louisa Elizabeth was a local girl. I've just search the 1911 Channel Islands Census and there were only 19 of which only a single woman, Louisa Elizabeth Jeffries, single and thirty years old would seem to be a possibility. The rest were too young, too old i.e. not of typical child bearing age or married. Assuming he was married when the first of the children were born in 1914, we now have a three year gap and I would consider it unlikely he left the Channel Islands and then returned with his new wife. This all assumes that the Thomas in the 1911 Jersey Census is my guy.
Thanks again folks - hopefully someone with access to Parish/BDM records can assist. It is possible he was married on Jersey and then moved to Alderney - perhaps I'm looking in the wrong parish!!!
