Australia / Re: LEBHERZ - Immigration & Emigration
« on: Friday 03 March 17 14:09 GMT (UK)  »
I'm related to Joseph Francis Lebherz (or Le Bherz) through his wife, Maud Bartley.  Maud is my 2nd cousin 2x removed.  I'd love to hear from anyone descended from this couple as I'm a bit confused and would love to discuss the family with someone to make sure I have the right names.

Maud and Joseph married in Brisbane in 1910.  The children I have for them are Ada Florence Maud  (married name Cunnington); Doris Elizabeth (married name Bell); John Francis (married to Daisy Morrison); Wiliam George (married to Kathleen Rosemarie Somers) and Alfred Charles (married to Eunice Jean Pearl Crick).  I have some grandchildren's names but not all of them as I have seen a list on the Ryerson index of people with the Lebherz surname but not sure how they tie in with the family.

Any help anyone can give me to put me on the right track would be appreciated.

Regards and best wishes,

The Lighter Side / Re: "Who Do You Think You Are" Series 13, Episode 5 Ricky Tomlinson
« on: Saturday 24 December 16 18:56 GMT (UK)  »
I enjoyed this one.  In fact the series on the whole so far has been quite interesting.  Mind you, I was a bit disappointed with Cheryl's one last week - she seemed disinterested at times but like Ricky's this week - you did get a sense of her pride in where she came from.  I'd have liked her episode to go back a few more generations on the Laing line but that's purely because I wanted to see if I was right with thinking that her Laings came initially from Scotland :D

Angus (Forfarshire) / Child Under Arm
« on: Wednesday 28 September 16 14:34 BST (UK)  »
I was searching for birth information for my 7x Great Grandfather when I noticed on one of the possible entries the prase "child under arm"  ??? - is this another way of saying illegitimate?  The person I'm searching for is an Alexander Cowlie who was born around 1660 in Dun, Angus.

The said Mr Cowlie has sent me on a merry chase trying to find his birth.  I think he was born in Dun or the surrounding area as he married Catren Muckart in 1676 at Dun and their 7 children that I've managed to track down so far were all born there, so this is indicative to me of a settled man, who didn't move very far from home.

However, his date of birth could be up to 20 years before that of my estimate.  I really really hate researching that far back - and especially in Scotland, but here's hoping that someone on this wonderful site can help me track down my 7x great grandad  ;)

Regards and best wishes to everyone

Just looked at your link, Valerie.  What a beautiful home.  I wonder what our ancestors who lived in the area would make of the changes  ;D

I have come across a couple of entries in the U.S. City Directories on Ancestry where the street name has been abbreviated.

I'm looking for help in working out which streets they refer to.  The one that's got me completely stumped is Stfd Ave in Bridgeport, Connecticut.

Anyone know where I can find out which street that refers to and whether there is a resource which shows the full forms for the abbreviations.  Some of them are quite straight forward but some of them, like this one, are completely unfathomable.

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

How to Use RootsChat (Please don't post requests here) / Rootschat Toolbar
« on: Friday 17 June 16 00:50 BST (UK)  »
I've just installed the Rootschat Toolbar, but it's just showing as a blank line on my screen.  I'm using Firefox version 47.0.  When I check the Toolbar in my Extensions, it shows it was updated on 17/6/2016 (today, which is I assume because I downloaded it today).  It also says that it couldn't be verified for use with Firefox.
