John was the son of William and Anne Shaw and he was baptised at St. Leonards church,Wollaton,Nottingham on the 3rd of January,1790.

He had 11 siblings,all baptised at the same church.

A good starting point is the census of 1851,where you will find Campain,his wife and 6 children living at Dyke.BUT,be aware that the enumerator has spelt the name as REDMILL. hth.

Not much help,but interesting to note that highwayman Dick Turpin was hanged for the theft of two horses from a farmer named Creasey (check spelling) at Heckington.

I remember Ginty very well.I can still picture the large old kitchen at Holme House where she cooked for Roy and Charles.
Is she still living at Grantham?

Black cat1,It seems almost certain that the Denmans originate in Retford.We went there recently and even the town library is called The Denman Library!

From there,they branched out all over the place,including Lincolnshire (our mob!)
