Was this the source you've seen? Under married name Gamble.
It is possible that the child was stillborn, hence the lack of other records.

Yes this is the information I saw, I did wonder stillborn.

I have found records that say Charlotte Elizabeth Varley B:1819 was in court in August 1847 suspected of infanticide.

I know that she was found not guilty however I cannot find information on the birth of a male child other than Henry William Gamble B:1841 who didn't die until much later.

The court papers say "The particulars of this case were unfit for publication; but from the evidence of the surgeon it appeared that the death might have been occasioned without any criminal act on the part of the prisoner."

I have tried looking for any information in the papers, the GRO, Ancestry and FindMyPast.

The Common Room / James Varley B:1822 - travel to NYC
« on: Friday 01 December 23 17:26 GMT (UK)  »
James Varley B:1822
Letitia Varley B: 1828
James William Varley B: 1849

All arrived in  NYC on 28th August 1852 travelling on the Northumberland.

Where can I find the return information please?

Arthur Albert arrived in August 1853 born in Middlesex so they must have returned before then.

I can't find an 1861 census but I can find James Varley on the 1871 census with a new wife.

Letitia died in 1860.

I have amended that info on ancestry as the info is correct and I have no idea why it says Paris. All documentation shows he married in Walthamstow.

I think we know his regiment number as it was on a medal that we have..

There is a William Varley number R21768 - if this is the one you are referring to - did you already have his service number/regiment from another source?

Yes this is him.

Are you already aware that over 60% of WW1 service records were burnt during the WW2 blitz

No, I didn’t know that.
