Re. the gift of a gold watch and chain to George Perry from the 3rd Duke of Sutherland... I have inherited a silver tankard with the inscription: To EC in remembrance of a trip to America 1881. It was given to my great grandfather Edward Crockett who was his valet.

Thanks for the WW1 info. By 1834 the house had passed out of my family, sold by my 3 x great grandmother Ann Wade.

I'll swap information about Scotts House being used by the army with details about my family's owning it. My 5 x great grandfather Robert Wade was born there in 1704.

Thanks for your response to my search for a connection between my 2 x great grandfather Owen Tomlinson (not 1 x great, as I wrote) and George Tomlinson (1846 - 1918). Owen's wife, Caroline, (1826 - 1887) was the 8th child of Charles Henry Baseley (1791 - 1874) and Ann Wade (1797 - 1863). He changed his surname officially to hers in 1821. I have Caroline's birthplace as Hampshire in 1826 not 1824. Am I wrong about this date? I have never come across anyone called Golden Wade! I have traced the Wades back via Field Marshal George Wade (1673 - 1748) to Sir William Waad, Lieutenant of the Tower of London (1546 - 1623) and beyond, but need an experienced researcher to check my homework!

Could someone please help me find the connection between my great grandfather, Owen Tomlinson (1826 - 1879) and George Tomlinson (born 1845 or 6) who was staying with Owen's widow in Wimbledon on the night of the 1881 Census?
