Tipperary / Re: Michael Walsh And Mystery Of The Census Returns

Have you tried adding an E to Walsh surname to make it Walshe.
You might find more marriages and births to add to your tree.

Walsh is more widespread than Walshe.

Is it possible that Walsh was a nickname and used to distinguish one family from another with same surname living in same area.
Was there a number of Jolley families close by.

That programme should have wide appeal.

I liked the part with the unveiling of the plaque to Alder. He was the one to identify & name tiny sea creatures. The artwork in his books was exceptional.

I started with position of Grave in Graveyard, but the replies mostly relate to burials within the Church building.
I think that the priest sold graves for different prices, depending on location, so the wealthy chose theirs to be close to church or main pathway to church door.

One priest chose to sell graves as single double or treble plots. The treble plot was same price as a double. You can guess that virtually all the plots are treble ones.

I was surprised at the Size of pension from Civil List given to Joshua Alder.
I was also surprised that his sister had Independent means.

Larger houses have both staff and family, so there is a mix of poor and wealth.
I would have liked to see detail of auction or private sale of house when it was changing hands.

Loved the programme, did not see any of first series.

The Lighter Side / Position of Grave in Graveyard.

Has anyone noticed how near to church "Well to do" families had their graves.
When I was looking for family graves, I began to notice a pattern of "Well to do" having graves either close to church or beside main pathway to the church.
The graves of poor or less well off which had either no headstones or just markers were further away.

The graves would belong to the period 1800 to about 1920
Roman Catholic in County Kilkenny.

On a trip to Portsmouth during holiday 2 years ago, we spent a lovely day viewing the 3 ships.
Looking forward to viewing the recorded programme.
