Just found a Robert Read born 1891 going to Stratford Ontario in 1903 a Home child. He was on ship Bavarian Mr Merry`s Party departing Liverpool. Could be him???

Home Child----that could be right as I now remember when my Mum said something about him advertising in a London paper he was in Canada and looking for his Mother. My Gran`s Sister saw the ad and my Gran then got in touch with him and he came over to see her and his family from the new marriage.
I don`t think that would be him in Littlehampton he definitely worked on the Railways in Canada.

Hi Sandra,
I couldn`t find Ann Amelia or James William Read or Robert on the 1891 Census. I know she married in 1890 and then by 1897 Ann Amelia my Grandmother down as Machin her single name was married to George Batchelor Howe.
Robert wrote letters to Ann Amelia from Canada and sent the pictures but sadly I haven`t got any letters.
An elderly cousin who lived in Ontario said he came to live there and married Amy and had two sons. One she said was possibly called Kenneth Fletcher Read ? Never been able to trace anyone.
I remember my mum saying he came back from Canada and wanted to see his Mother and her new family and she said he was a lovely man. As far as I know he never came back here after that.

Forgot to say his Mother Ann Amelia Machin went on to marry George Batchelor Howe I don`t know what happened to James william Read. I have the marriage cert from Battersea.

Thanks very much Sandra. I too found that one and was very disappointed when I saw Mother`s name. I know his Surname was READ . His Father was James William Read and came from Laxfield in Suffolk.

I am looking for any information about an Uncle called Robert William Read. He was born in 1891 in Battersea London. His mother was Ann Amelia Machin (Read)
He emigrated to Ontario Canada and married someone called Amy. I believe they had two children.
I think he worked on the Railways in Hamilton Ontario.
I have pictures of him he sent to his Mother but no address.
Any information would be very helpful.
