Thank you Willow. I will check that out. I found some Timmons and Wrights residing in Stafforshire in the 1500-1700.
Do you know anything about Timan being a variation of TimmonsTimmins or Right for Wright in England?

That is excellent and the fact that a Tymmins is there as well is a fantastic. Be interesting to see if this goes anywhere and if we can find more Wrights and Timmons around that time or earlier.

You helped us a great deal Willow. Thank You! :)

Thank you for contacting me. Yes it looks like there is a definite connection. Zak is from the Wright family. My understanding is that several of his direct male Wright family members did the extensive YDNA test and somehow they all ended up as matches for our YDNA Timmons surname. It is possible for that to happen under certain circumstances. I'm actually dealing with one of those said circumstances on my husbands side. A female in his direct line had a son and gave said son her surname with no mention of who the father was.

Zak and a few others understand that DNA and what to look for etc...I really don't understand it at all.

Recently we had someone join our FB DNA Timmons group who's Timmins ancestors immigrated from Monaghan, Ireland, fairly recently, and that is also where many Wrights resided at one point in time. Many migrated from there to Scotland and England. I don't have a time in history but from what I gathered it would have been in the 1500's or so (maybe a little earlier) that they migrated from there. My Timmons line and others show a strong match around generation's 8-12 to his Wrights family members and a few other Wrights who tested. It's odd because if it was a common error I'd think many (1000's) of other unrelated surnames would have popped up as matches as well but the don't.

I really appreciate that information on George Wright and I will pass it on to Zak. My hope is to find a lead, maybe a marriage or source that shows Timmons and Wrights around the 1500's to early 1600's.

Thanks again =)

Staffordshire / Timmons and Wright Connection?
« on: Friday 20 April 18 03:18 BST (UK)  »
Through the YDNA testing it was discovered that in the direct line of the Timmons surname there is a connection with the surname Wright. This would have been around the late 1500's to early 1600's. Possibly even a little earlier from what the TIP says on the DNA information.

We have been able to figure out the the Wright ancestor was most likely in Staffordshire before he sailed to America and the event most likely took place there. I have very little information to go on so any information anyone might have regarding these two surnames in Staffordshire (even the surrounding area) would be helpful and something to go on. The Wright name I have is (Captain) George Wright b.abt 1615 England, died in Flushing, New York. It was through a ship record that the information for Staffordshire came from. I don't have any idea who the Timmons might have been. The surname may have been spelled Timmins. George Wright may have nothing to do with the link himself but maybe his father did.

Wicklow / Re: Timmons family of Wicklow----- UPDATED 27/10/07

Hello, I am back to researching my Timmons line. With the recent DNA testing at FTDNA (recent for me anyway) we have found many matches to various Timmons lines. My brother took the YDNA 67 and we recently upgraded him to the BigY and YDNA111. Waiting on results for those. Anyway, my line is from Abraham Timmons who is absolutely related to John Morgan Timmons line, probably through a brother or cousin of John's parents or something, and other's. There has been debates on which Timmons came from England and which came from Ireland. I am positive my line came from Ireland. My dad remembers his grandfather talking about his grandfather, Wingate W Timmons, and called him the little Irishman.

If anyone is interested in joining our FB group that is centered around Timmons DNA and genealogy there are people from the Timmons/Timmins family joining and more everyday as we reach out to Timmons who are researching their origins. It has been helpful. We have some people comparing the DNA and are excellent at matching up the family lines.

Rachel, there are some Timmons from John Morgan's line in the group as well. I was talking to him, Chad Timmons, and he has a lot of information. You may already know most of it but maybe you two could exchange what you have. I will post the link to the page. It is focused on the Timmons DNA. There is another group that is excellent that is focused on the Family History side of things. We do exchange family history on the DNA group as well. =)

I am also interested in if anyone has any information on Timmons marrying into the Wright family. It would have been very early, 1500-1600's either in Ireland or England.

Hello. Hopefully you are still researching and checking this forum. There are a group of us Timmons who are involved in several Timmons projects in the hopes of narrowing down our Timmons connections. I recently found out that the Wright family is in the male Timmons direct line for a DNA match. Zak is researching this connection as it is his family who have a Wright connection to Timmons about generation 12. He believes the line connects in England. After seeing this post about Wrights and Timmons and you being in England I am very curious about a possible connection. I realize yours is more recent but there could be a history there that goes back further.

If you are interested we have several groups. One is for family history Timmons. There are Timmons from all over. The other is the Timmons YDNA group where we have some people very good at matching up the DNA and finding the connections. Not everyone needs to have a YDNA but it is the most helpful if a male tested. For females that tested autosomal works as well. It would be interesting to see if we can trace the Wright Timmons connections further back.

Hope to hear from you.
