My grandad, Harry Davies and his twin brother, Arthur Davies went into Styal Cottage Homes in June 1922 at nearly 4 years of age.   From what my grandad told my mother, they both had a happy life there and absolutely adored their Housemother.  Their sister (my great aunt), Dora Davies went into Styal Cottage Homes in 1926 at the age of 11.

Hi Blen868,

Many thanks for allowing me to look at your website.  The photo of the seaman in uniform with the football team looks very much like my great uncle.

Regards

Thanks very much anyway J D!  I guess I'm going to have to wait until the 1921 census (boo hoo!).

Jessie Clinton's mother's maiden name was Clayton.  Why do you ask Peter?

Hi Mo,

I have now dug out the addresses for Jessie Davies/Clinton.  She lived at the following addresses:-

1915 - 46 Queen Street, Ardwick

1919 - 53 Ardwick Green North, Manchester

1922-1926 - 61 Albion Street, Queens Road, Harpurhey

1939 - 39 Alton Street, Harpurhey

Again, many thanks for your help.

Mich

Hi Mo,

The addresses on the birth certificates are that of the workhouse.  I do have some addresses for Jessie around 1922, which I will dig out over the next couple of days and will let you know.

Many thanks for your help,

Mich

Thanks for your help Andrew.  Jessie was staying at her sister's on the night of the 1911 census.  I guess it looks like I will have to wait another 10 years for the 1921 census.
