Lancashire Lookup Requests / Re: Birth Look up - Hale, Lancashire
« on: Tuesday 16 December 14 13:13 GMT (UK)  »
5 years later and I've picked up where I left off with these Challinors!!

I have purchased a FindMyPast subscription and have found Charles Frederick & Martha Jane listed in the 1880 Newtown (Montgomeryshire) death register, both died of scarlet fever.  Also listed on the same page is Bertie Challinor, who also died of scarlet fever.  Interestingly, all children are listed as living in Back Lane, Newtown, which is where the rest of the family remained for many years.

Think I can safely say they were all children of Richard Challinor & Jane Trow but I've still got to solve the mystery of the Lancashire births :-\

Thank you Ken for the information.

Freddie's only relatives left are me, my Dad, my Uncle & my cousin...unfortunately, the other medals must be long gone. I do, however, have a feeling I know who would have sold them!  His youngest sister Millicent died in 2000 and she was a bit of a devil with family heirlooms......selling them on without us knowing :D  However, she did give me an old antique box containing his 14-15 star medal, confirmation books, bible, photos etc so I can't complain.

Thank you for your very interesting reply.

I should have mentioned that I do have his medal card - copy attached -  and did see the ditto's but it didn't cross my mind that they meant anything.

I have no idea where his other medals went but, like you say, were probably sold as Freddie's family were poor.  I'd love to find them.

I intend to hold on to his 14-15 star medal  ;)

Hi escortmad79

A very belated thank you for your reply.  I haven't been on here for a long time as the family history searching was put on the back burner for many months.

I'm so glad to be back  :D  Got so much to do............ ;)

Montgomeryshire / Re: Marriage of William Thomas to Mary, Welshpool, about 1807

Another possibility for you:

13th May 1810, Llanwyddelan (which is near to Welshpool)

William Thomas
Bachelor, OTP
Signed: X

Mary Gittins
Spinster, OTP
Signed: X

Married by Banns

There is the possibility that they never married at all  ???

My Great Uncle, John Frederick Jones, was born 28th June 1894 in Llanidloes, Montgomeryshire, the eldest of 7 children, son of Thomas and Jane Jones of 39 Smithfield Street.

He was killed in action in the Battle of Gaza, Egypt on 26th March 1917 and his name is inscribed on a memorial panel in Jerusalem Memorial.

Last night I re-subscribed to Find My Past and downloaded his service papers.....What a find!!
I found it quite sad to read the entries "Missing" and "Death accepted for official purposes".

He was awarded 2 medals, Victory & 15 Star.  I have the 15 star, still in it's original box, and it is something that I treasure.

Shropshire / Re: TURNER from Shrewsbury
« on: Monday 11 February 13 23:50 GMT (UK)  »
Alberbury,

I have a Turner line in my tree in Newtown, Montgomeryshire.

My GGG Grandmother, Mary Turner, married a Charles Hudson, and was the daughter of Peter Turner (taken from marriage certificate).

Peter is difficult to trace in the earlier census returns which makes me think he wasn't originally from Newtown.

Have you come across a Peter Turner in your research?

I haven't been on here for quite some time, or done any family history research, so after responding to an email notification I had a shock when I logged on.....RC is looking very different!!!!

I'm liking what I see so far but just need some time to get used to it again  ;D
