It looks to have been in excellent condition. I’m sure the house would have had some stories to tell. So sad that it has been destroyed.

It is a tragedy that the house has been demolished to make way for a modern eyesore/s.  :'(

Looking at the two photos I think the house would have had some age to it.

Wild guess with no evidence, but I think that the upper floor and the windows may have been a later addition. The celing in main room shown in the photo looks quite low and the beams don’t look that old. As I say, that’s just a guess, and closer examination would have been needed to judge more accurately.

I don’t have anything constructive to add Lisa, but just wanted to mention that I have many examples in my DNA results where I have a higher number of shared cms with a match than my father does.

My daughter often has very similar cms, and I think in some cases even higher than my father, her grandfather.

Ancestral Family Tree DNA Testing / Re: Help finding common ancestor

It might help if you can persuade the parents of your two young matches to take DNA tests.

Although you can’t find any familiar surnames in the matches’ trees, are any of the place names the same as in your tree?

They could easily be descended via a female line whose surnames changed upon marriage.

…. What a tangled web Diana. In my example I’ve found several mentions of these family members in newspapers relating to children’s marriages and other events, obituaries etc, and they appear to have been fairly upstanding members of the community. It makes me wonder if people weren’t aware of the relationships, or if they just didn’t care, or maybe there was gossip behind the scenes. I would expect it to be frowned upon if known.

I have an ancestor who married her dead husband’s brother …. and another who married her dead husband’s son (her step son).

I agree that trying to find both Nelson Street and Nelson Place in the census is a good idea.

This might not be the case with Nelson Place, but sometimes an address which sounds like a street name can actually be a row of houses. I’ve been caught out in the past looking for a “terrace” which has turned out to be in a row of terraced houses on a street with a different name.

It may not be the case for a “Place” but I just thought to mention it in case.

Symbol/logo of the photographer or maker of the mount?

Is there is a name anywhere on the photo to cross check?

It looks llike a nice expensively produced photo in keeping with this sort of embossing.

Just popping in briefly to throw in a couple of comments …. Viktoria, I would use butter rather than margarine in that recipe, (but I am a butter fiend) and presumably plain flour rather than sr flour.

Roobarb, Calling it Lunar New Year has crept in here too where it used to be called “Chinese” NY. Living in an area with a huge Chinese population, I can’t see them ever being offended by this. Other countries also celebrate at this time, so the term Lunar New Year is coming into use to include them as well, (though I don’t think any non Chinese would have been offended either).  :)
