Hi Caz,

Thank you for the restored photo.  The next time I have the album (its at my moms house), I will scan the individual photos at a higher resolution.  I thought these were already scanned at 300 dpi.  These photos are extremely small.  They are mini tin types of about 1 inch by 1.5 inches.

Perhaps someone could enhance the photo as well.  To me, there appears to be some medals pinned to his shirt and if they could be enhanced, that might provide some insight as well.

What type of medium is the photo on?  How large is the photo?  Is there anything at all on the backside of the photo?

Hello all,

I know the approximate date of this class photo as being about 1888.  I have a series of these, but will only post one right now.  If there's anyone out there who can also help identify the school and any individuals, that would be fantastic.

Here's what I know.  It belonged to my great grandmother Minnie Isobel Banks.  It's from Revere MA.  The time my great grandmother lived in Revere is from about 1887 - 1892.  However, she would be about 17 in 1887, so my guess is that the photo is from 1888.  I do not know which photo is my great grandmother either.

Any help you could provide would be greatly appreciated.  The clothes from this dated photo may also be used to help date other photos from this time period.

If anyone is interested in seeing the whole album, you can view it at

Thanks Annie and Sami.  The words are coming together.  I suspect vicious habits might mean drinking too much.

Thanks for the start.   I've been able to get a few words here and there, but nothing like what you came up with.

Here's the best I have for all of the document (including your helpful insight of the first two paragraphs.

There's one record (the 1890 US Veterans Census) which said my ancestor had been shot in the hand.  However, I haven't found anything else which mentions this.  The last paragraph seems to have scars as the second word and the next line might have the word hands.  I'm hoping it might substantiate the 1890 census which indicated he was shot in the hand.

Hello all,

Can anyone transcribe this?  I usually am pretty good at transcribing and reading old writing.  This one escapes me.  Any help you can provide would be greatly appreciated.
