Hi there,  can anyone advise if there are any passenger lists on line for between 1871 and 1878 going from UK to New Zealand or maybe Australia?

I am searching for John James Paxton born 1857 London ( also known as John Beresford Burrell Paxton)

Hoping someone can help.

Hi Everyone,

Thank you so much for all your help.  It is really appreciated.

I know about the burial in Hamilton and that they separated/divorced, and about their first child being born in Oz (in Picton, NSW)
John Beresford Burrell Paxton's real name was John James Paxton born 1857 in London.  He was the blacksheep of the family and was a Remittance Man (paid to stay away from England) but I dont know why.  He is a very illusive fellow as I cant find him after 1871 where he was at boarding school.  After that I cant find him until 1893 in an electoral roll in NZ.

Diana Ellen Paxton nee Wilson was also born in England but lived in NZ with the rest of her family when she married John in 1895….down near Wellington.

Im just on my way out but I dont think I have Beatrice in the family tree and will check it out later today.

Thanks in the meantime

Gillie

Hi all,

I recently found out that my gt grandparents, apart from having quite a few children, had a set of twins......Edward and Ernest Paxton born 1908.

The help I require is this ..... Can anyone find out ANY information about the twins....did they die, get married......go overseas??

I can't find anything apart from their birth on the NZ BDM site.

Parents were John and Diana Paxton sometimes Burrell Paxton.

Many thanks

Leicestershire / Re: 1846 Leicester

Thank you so much for the reply….That certainly sounds like it may have been the cause as the son was 19 years old and the parents were not "old"

Cheers

Hi All,

I have ancestors who were born and bred in Leicester and was wondering if someone can tell me if there was an outbreak of some disease or the flu in 1846??

The reason I am asking is because at least 3 died in the year 1846, .....a husband, wife, and at least one child.  This family was very well off so it wouldn't have been from malnutrition or similar, I shouldn't think so anyway .

Hope there is someone out there who can help.

Cheers

Hi Everyone,
Yesterday I found an online book called the Law Advertiser.  It appears to be printed every year in the 1830's and this vol is vol 9 for 1831.Here are the following extractions -
Paxton John, the younger, formerly of Berwick Upon Tweed,Linen Draper, but lately of 22 Ironmonger Lane, in the city of London. To surrender May 10, May 17 and June 10 C.C.R.
PetCred Thomas Hogarth of Etal, Northumberland, schoolmaster, now residing at 26 Golden Lane, Middlesex. Seal April 23

There is another listing with almost the same words.

Then the third lisitng is as follows -
Under the heading "Assignees Chosen"
Paxton John.....James Hogarth of Etal, Northumberland, schoolmaster, and Mary Hogarth, of Hay Farm, Northumberland, Spinster. Dated May 17

This looks like John Paxton owed money to the Hogarths as creditors??

Im wondering if this Mary Hogarth would be the mother of Isabella James (who may be illegitimate??) and who married John Paxton......making Mary Hogarth William James Paxton's grandmother?/
Would James Hogarth be her broither??father??
