South Africa / McNAIRS in Port Elizabeth
« on: Friday 27 October 06 07:40 BST (UK)  »
Can anyone please help me? I am looking for information on the  McNAIR family, who arrived in South Africa around 1900, as far as I know.
James McNAIR married Louisa RENNIE probably around 1903. He worked for the railways.
Can anyone tell me where in Scotland James came from? His father was Archibald Bruce McNAIR, who may have travelled with other members of the family to settle in South Africa at this time

Thanks Wendy,
I have sent for Eliza Taylor's death certificate, (hopefully the right one).
Both Thomas's and Eliza's names appear on William's mariage certificate, Eliza as a witness.
Peter :)

Renfrewshire / Robert Bruce McNAIR
« on: Thursday 28 September 06 20:28 BST (UK)  »
I am trying to find Robert Bruce McNair, who lived somewhere in Renfrewshire in the mid 1800's. He had at least 2 children, James,  born about 1873, and Margaret, born around the same year, I don't know exactly.

James and Margaret certainly emigrated to South Africa around 1900, possibly with the rest of the family.

Staffordshire Lookup Requests / TAYLORS in Aldridge
« on: Thursday 28 September 06 20:22 BST (UK)  »
I am trying to find out the maiden name of Eliza Taylor, born about 1826 in Wiltshire. She married Thomas Taylor, born about 1820 in Aldridge. Their first son William was born about 1850, and baptised at Aldridge in Feb 1851.
In 1851 they lived in Aldridge, but by 1861 had moved to Walsall.
I have been unsuccessful in finding the correct marriage index number as well as William's correct birth index number.
Plaese can someone help?
