Norfolk Lookup Requests / Re: Sophia GOWING b 1828 in Forncett
« on: Friday 24 June 16 03:18 BST (UK)  »
Hi James

Thank you for your reply.  Sorry to say I only just noticed that it had been posted.  I believe I did make some progress with this after posting my original query.  Just checking my records - yes - it appears that I had decided that Sophia was NOT part of the family I was researching.  My main interest is in the children of Rev. John Gowing and his wife Charlotte Sones.

I have found that names on death certs are not terribly reliable, especially when the death happened half a world away from where the child was born and the informant may have had only scant knowledge of the family.

So, just out of curiosity, which one was your direct ancestor?

Regards
Rachel

Donegal / Re: Anderson family, Ballyshannon
« on: Wednesday 01 June 16 01:14 BST (UK)  »
I have not been on this site for ages, so forgive me for chiming in rather late on this thread.  I am also researching an Anderson family of Ballyshannon.  I don't know whether there is any connection with yours.  I have Lowry Anderson b.ca 1806 married Elizabeth Thompson on 29 Jan 1834 in Parish of Kilbarron.  Lowry died in 1847 and Elizabeth in 1877.  Both were buried in Drumholm Graveyard.

Their children were all baptised in Kilbarron:
William 1834 - nothing else known
John 1836, died 1843, buried Drumholm Graveyard
Richard 1838, died 1854, buried Drumholm Graveyard
Eliza Jane 1839, died 1864 in Adelaide, South Australia
Lowry Murray 1842. (My GGF) died 1921 in Western Australia
John 1844, died 1925 Victoria, Australia
Florinda 1846, died 1917, buried in St Anne's Church of Ireland graveyard, Ballyshannon

I would love to find Lowry's parents as well as any possible connections with other Anderson families in Ballyshannon.

I have often been told that the only way to make any progress is to go to Ireland.  I finally have a chance to go there a bit later this year.  I wonder if anyone can recommend any particular places I should go to access records which are not available online.

Many thanks for any suggestions.

Thanks Christopher and Anne for your replies.  Unfortunately I can't get to the library in Dublin as I live 15000km away.  I would be very grateful to anyone willing to do this look-up for me.

Northamptonshire / SHARROCK burial - Wellingborough
« on: Monday 25 February 08 21:18 GMT (UK)  »
Hi

I am looking for burial details of Hannah SHARROCK whose death was registered  in Q1 1840 at  Wellingborough.

I suspected that she was buried in Sywell due to the fact that her son Charles was baptised at Sywell on 1 Feb 1840, but I have been informed by a researcher who has the national burial index that she wasn't buried at Sywell - so it could have been anywhere within the Wellingborough RD.

Can anyone help with this please.  The main thing I'm hoping to find out is her age at death.  Her maiden name was REDLEY - perhaps she is buried with other members of her original family.

TIA for any suggestions
Rachel

Berkshire Lookup Requests / SHARROCK/OTTAWAY mar. Sunninghill
« on: Monday 11 February 08 19:19 GMT (UK)  »
I wonder if anyone might have access to the parish registers for Sunninghill - perhaps through the Berkshire Records Office (?).  I have found this marriage in the IGI:

William SHARROCK m. Elizabeth OTTAWAY on 22 Mar 1834.

I am keen to find out if the parish register gives any further details which might help me track down Elizabeth's birth and parents - names of witnesses, whether she was otp etc.  Were the banns called in Sunninghill?

I know that Elizabeth died in 1840 at the age of 27 years.  I suppose it might be worth looking for a birth of Elizabeth Ottaway in Sunninghill circa 1813 if this is not asking too much.

Many thanks in advance to anyone who can do this look-up for me

Ireland / Re: Birth of Marion Powell
« on: Wednesday 30 May 07 07:21 BST (UK)  »
Hi Mary

Many thanks for your time and effort in looking those up for me.  It's beginning to look like the mother's maiden name might have been recorded wrongly at the time of Marion's marriage.  I will have to try to find something to prove it one way or the other...

Just one question - when you say these records are from civil reg - may I ask where you are accessing these?  Is it something that's available online?

Many thanks
Rachel

Hi Kate

Thanks for the suggestions.  Unfortunately I have no way of knowing if these people are related.  I only know what is recorded on Marion's marriage cert - born Athlone, parents Henry POWELL and Eliza QUINN  - of course either Quill or Quinn could be a transciption error...

Thanks for taking the time to look them up

Hi Chris and Kate

Thank you both for your replies on this thread.  I am sorry I did not see them or reply earlier.  I haven't been on this site for a while due to family commitments.

Unfortunately Marion's birth is not in the IGI - I have tried that many times... and all the other on-line resources that I can think of.

I am hoping that SKS with access to parish records for Athlone will be able to do the look-up for me.

Many thanks in advance for any assitance with this.

Regards
Rachel

Westmeath / Re: 1850's Marriage Look up in Athlone for POWELL
« on: Tuesday 23 May 06 06:22 BST (UK)  »
Hi Steve

I am also interested in POWELLs in Athlone.

My great grandmother Marion POWELL was born in Athlone circa 1866 to parents Henry POWELL and Eliza QUINN.

I wonder if there is a connection to your family?

I look forward to hearing from you.
Rachel
