Sussex / Re: Stephen Eastwood of Burwash/ Etchingham

Hello.
Would anyone know why William Eastwood bapt March 20th 1714 Mayfield, son of John and Ann,is shown as William Nevell Eastwood on most Ancestry Community Trees. The reason i ask,i have a large number of DNA matches going back to these Sussex Eastwoods, they are somehow connected to my East Sussex family, probably through one of two illigitimate lines. There are several other shared matches who go back to a family named Neville, and variants.Im just wondering where the Nevell in William Nevell Eastwood comes from.

Nel.
Hi Nel,
William Eastwood would be my 6x Great Grandfather. I have my tree up on Ancestry and cannot see any reference to Nevell in it. Be interesting to see if you have a DNA match with me. My Ancestry user name is swebby1.

You can still access the site, the security cert has expired as it wasn't renewed by the ill owner. As you are not purchasing or downloading anything it does not pose a problem. I have heard through SFHG that there might be a volunteer taking it over soon.

Hi Keith,

Could you look up for any DAY family members in the rebels I had read elsewhere there were involved. Also if any ROWETT family members were there.

Kind Regards

Hi,

Having HILLMANs in my tree I often find them with variant surnames like ILLMAN. On the SMI there is a marriage of Timothy HILMAN of Ringmer to Elizabeth THOMAS by banns in Barcombe 25 Jan 1756 of which she was of the parish.

Might be one to consider although it is in East rather than West Sussex.

Sussex / Re: Edward James Edgington - mariage

Hi,

The Sussex Record Society have transcriptions of the Parish Registers of East Grinstead, you can find a copy of the book online.

I cannot see any references to Edgington's in the registers at all, however there are possible variant surnames such as EGERTON, EDGGERTONNE and EDGERTONNE in the registers but none of them fit with the information you have.

There seem to be more EDGINGTONs in nearby Horsham and an Edward EGERTON is buried in RUSPER between East Grinstead and Horsham in 1639.

A difficult one indeed!

Hi,
I looked for WEAVER on the SMI disc as that looks to me how it is spelled nowadays and came up with this.

Dorothy WEVER m John DONGETT 5 May 1561 Horsham, Sussex.

That might help you find a death date.

Sussex Completed Lookup Requests / Re: Looking for a baptism that 'fits'
« on: Tuesday 29 September 20 18:04 BST (UK)  »
That is the baptism suggested in Burchall's Transcriptions.

1747 Jul 25 Bond of Joseph NEWINGTON, gent, tp for a bastard son on Mary FEVER, widow, tp
(Par.492/34/3/9) [Joseph NEWINGTON married 1 Dec 1729 at Ticehurst, Mary TOMPSETT;
Thomas FEVER married 10 Dec 1730 at Lamberhurst, Mary TYHURST].
William base born son of Widow FEVER baptised 19 June 1743.

Maybe the fact he was a gent held some sway?

It is quite possible that this is the banns for William and Elizabeth giving she comes from Lambeth area.

5 Jul 1824 St George in the East, Tower Hamlets, England
William THOMPSON Widower
Elizabeth WOOD Spinster
