Good luck with your search.

Hi.  Just found your post from 2014 during a Google Search and wanted to say that I, too, had a problem with missing parts of the 1891 Census for Liverpool some years ago.  My search was for my great grandfather's shop at 141 Copperas Hill.  At that time I spoke to a very helpful lady (from Liverpool council offices if I remember correctly) and, although she didn't believe me at first, she checked it herself and confirmed that that particular part of the hill was missing.  She kindly sent me a page of Gores 1891 Liverpool Directory which does have the listing.

This is to thank all those people who gave me links to info about Gilbert Back.  I am very grateful and now have all the information I need.

The Common Room / Gilbert Back, Austrian violinist

This is probably a long shot, but does anyone have any kind of information on Gilbert Back, an Austrian citizen, probably born around 1900.  He was 1st violinist with the Berliner Philharmonic from 1st October 1925 until around 1935.

Thank you, Bookbox.

That confirms what I thought - and thanks for the link too.

To all those who took the trouble to reply to my original query, and it was so long ago I can't remember when I posted it...

I apologise for not having acknowledged your replies - I never received any notification of them.

How I wish I had taken Latin when I had the chance at school!!!

"...filia et haeres Anger et vxoris filiae et heredis Vrswik ..."

I suspect it means "daughter and heiress of Anger and also daughter and heiress of Urswick", but it's the "et vxoris" which I'm not sure of and I would be grateful if someone could confirm or otherwise my suspicions please.

And also - as the 'v' in vxoris and Vrswik seem to be substitutes for 'U', is it possible that the 'n' in Anger could be a substitute for a 'u'?

The Common Room / Re: Looking for my great uncle Harry

Hi Igorstrav

Unfortunately I don't know the answer to that.

I just thought that, as I have been banging my head against a brick wall where uncle Harry is concerned for such a long time, maybe someone on Rootschat might be able to "re-launch" me - so to speak!!

And to Spidermonkey

Sorry if I sounded ungrateful - it's so frustrating when I have all the information about all the rest of his huge family of siblings and nothing about him.  I believe he died in Israel, but have no proof!!

I am not looking for his birth, I have his birth certificate and, as I said previously, he was born Henry Blumenthal and later changed his name to Harry Dale, which unfortunately is an incredibly common name!!!

The family scattered all over England after the death of their father.  Harry appears on the 1911 Census in Poole, living with an older brother, aged 17, and I also found a record possibly of him serving with the Royal Fusiliers during WWI.

Thanks for the suggestions for Pepi - I will now follow that up.  As his parents and siblings were Jewish I am wondering whether he found himself a Jewish wife - but at least you have given me something more to work on.

Many thanks for your interest.
