Thanks for the update.

I haven't got Proculla on my tree at present, but about to add her now.

I'd not seen the Cadwallet name used before though, that opens up a whole new window of research for me...

Hi Chardonnay!

Unfortunately, I cannot find any links between us.

If it helps you, my Wallet's became Cadwallader's in around 1850!  I cannot find out why, all I have is a sudden surname change for any children born after 1850 to the same parents.

I'd love to be able to help further, but I think we may be looking at different families - I could help you with some look-ups if you need it.

Hi Stuart,

Suppose that William was Johns first male child, then is it possible that he named him after his dad ?,  on the 51 census he gives his birth as Dudley, and Ann as Wrockwardine, the I.G.I. has a John nock baptised 23 June 1793, Wednesfield, parants William and Sarah,  I had a poke around in the archives erlier and had a look at the Marriage that Gnu found, they were married by banns and one of the witnesses was a William Nock, there are no children born to them in the village,I searched from 1816 to 1829, which suggests they just married in Anns parish then moved on, perhaps this the other couple that is in the area?,

your John 1819, is in the archives under St. Georges,a chapalry  of donnington wood, they were living in Snedshill, and he was a collier,

Best wishes
Pete :)

Pete,

Does the wedding of John and Ann that you found have any record of where John was born, or his originating parish.  I am just trying to confirm his birth location, especially if William was his father.

Thanks

Stuart

Thanks for all the help so far.

I have just encountered some further information which is clouding the matter.

I have found a John Nock born 1792 in Shifnal this keeps him in the area and makes sense that they live in Shifnal in 1951.  I just need clarity that the 1851 census is correct with John being born in dudley so I don't go down the wrong track.

Does anyone have access to the 1821 census and does it give a birthplace for John (snr) as his son John would be around 4 at this time?  I am assuming he would be living in Oakengates or St. Georges as that is where the christenings took place.

Any help gratefully recieved.

Thanks

Stuart

Hi,

I've found some details on www.ancestry.co.uk, but they all seem to have Beatrice dying in 1996 in Australia.

Does this ring any bells?

I can post some more details if it will help.

Hi Pete,

Thanks for your help.

I have details on James and George, my issue is around their parents, as I am struggling to find details for their father John and mother Ann, I don't know when they were married so not sure where to look to find them.

There is also a William born slightly earlier at the same church, but I also know that there is another John and Ann Nock living in the same area at that time, so I don't know if that is another brother or not.

I guess if anyone has access to some local 1831 or 1821 censuses they should be in them with children (especially John as he was born in 1819).

Shropshire / John Nock (1817 - 1864)
« on: Monday 16 January 12 21:42 GMT (UK)  »
Hi All,

I'm looking for details of the parents/grandparents of John Nock, born 1817 in Oakengates he married Emma Evans (born 1831 in New York or Newfoundland) in 1848 and had several (10) children.

In the 1841 census he was living with his mother Ann (born 1796) and brothers George (born 1826) and James (born 1827) all in Shiffnal.

He was living with both parents in the 1851 census in Shiffnal John (born 1793 in Dudley) & Ann (born 1793 in Wrockwardine).  This is the only reference I can find to his father.

In the 1861 census he was still in Shifnal with his mother and other family members, but no father.

I would like help in identifying his parents as I only have a single reference to his father and no idea of his mothers maiden name.

If anyone had details of who his  grandparents were as well, that would help me progress my research.

Thanks

Stuart

Thanks for the quick responses guys!!!

Gwynne,  as John was tried in 1819 and Lot was born in abt 1817, he could have been an uncle, and I guess the alias pulls together the Wallet and Cadwallader link.  Odd it was never used in the census until 1901 though.
