......aha! i had the answer all the time  ::)

Just looked at the 1881 census & her mother had remarried (Burley) and was living with quite an extended family, albeit with out Sarah at "18 Higher street."

You must have inspired me Rosie  :)

I've just noticed your answer Carole, thank you.

Still would like to see if it made the local papers though, if anyone has access as im sensing a sad tale.

Thanks Rosie

Yes her Mothers maiden name was Tapp.

The Burial detail you found is the one I've seen. However i'd just like to try & confirm that "Sarah Ellen" Reid is the same person as "Ellen Sarah"Reid.

I was wondering if the death of an 18 year old girl was newsworthy enough to find it in one of the local rags. or if there was an obituary.

I have been trying to find out some further information as to what happened to one of my G Grandfathers 9 sisters, and the only one I've failed to trace thus far.

Sarah E (possibly Ellen) Reid was Born in Portsea, Hampshire in 1859. Her Father, at the time, was a sergeant in the Cheshire Militia Called Isaac & her Mother was called Amelia. The last document I can find her on is the 1871 Lydford Census, aged 11 & Living with the rest of the family in "Barracks." Her father at this time had become a Warden at Dartmoor Prison.... and that's it, no further positive trace.

The only possible clue i might have, is that she may have died in 1877 at Plymouth, but registered as Ellen Sarah Reid. The location & age would be right, as her father had died in 1872, and the family had returned to Plymouth, the original Family location before Isaac had been posted to Portsea. "Find-A-Grave" also has an entry & burial location of this person at Ford park Cemetery, but alas no photo of the gravestone, if one exists.

I was wondering if someone could please try and find any further information on her. Either to confirm the death record & Burial is the person i'm looking for, or if indeed she went on to Marry.

Thank you both for your information, much appreciated.

I recall a similar threat was issued, regarding another such establishment, here in Warrington  ;D

Could someone please advise were the Cheshire County Lunatic Asylum was (around 1881)

I have a possible ancestor who may have been an inmate. She came from Macclesfield, but as far as i can tell the above asylum was in Chester. Some distance away! I was wondering if the Asylum may have had different branches closer to home or could she really have been moved so far away.

Thank you for the replies & to be honest I’m not really surprised by the answers as I had suspected that it was all a bit too easy. Good old fashioned research is more satisfying anyway.
Not a bad idea of yours Biggles

The Common Room / Ancestry parentage hints
« on: Tuesday 31 January 23 20:55 GMT (UK)  »
Whilst looking at my Wifes family tree on Ancestry i was drawn towards the "potential Father/Mother" hints that were consistently appearing. So purely out of curiosity i followed them through the numerous generations. The hints actually looked to terminate eventually at a "William Wilkinson Sheriff of London 1500-1539". Naturally curious i continued a search via Google and managed to trace this gentleman to a Sir William Wilkinson, Duke of York, who's Mother was Lady Mary Plantagenet, Duchess of York,......sister of "King Richard lll" !!!

I'm pretty sure many people may also have blindly followed these links, so before getting too over excited, i need to ask the question as to how reliable the Parentage hints are on Ancestry.

Any thoughts?
