The Lighter Side / Re: 'Put away?'

I discovered the hospital records of a relative of my OH: she had lived a full and busy life, running her household and having 5 children.  Then she began to behave irrationally (delusions, sudden passionate religious outpourings, failure to engage with her family).  She was initially sent to the county asylum and returned home when they felt she was stable and fit to carry on her regular routine.  Shortly afterwards she re-admitted herself and there she stayed for the remainder of her life, apparently quite content but unable to take up her responsibilities.  I understand she was visited but had little desire to interact with her family, curiousity about the outside world or their lives.

At least she found a refuge - I felt sorry for the eldest daughter, who brought up her younger siblings.

The families are living next door to each other on the 1851 census in Hawkesbury, so the couple would have known each other for a few years before marriage  :)

I have checked the Surname Interests and also searched posts, but no old posts or interest came up which directly relates to this particular Yarnold family.  I am hoping this post might catch the eye of someone with a connection to them.

Do any Rootschatters have an interest in the family of Frank and Edith Yarnold who were living in Harberton Road, Islington (1911 census and thereafter)?  If so, I should be most grateful if you could send me a personal message.

Thank you  :)

I have no proof but I imagine relocation schemes could be publicised by writing to Parish Officers, or to the clergy, who could then spread the information around their parish in whatever way they saw fit.  Advertising, either in newspapers or by posters, could also be effective as literacy levels rose.  This latter strategy was employed from 1896 onwards in the drive to encourage people to move to Canada to break new land.

In the Jeremy Paxman episode of "WDYTYA?" some of his ancestors from the rural south east similarly relocated to an industrial city in the midlands.  In their case, I think it was related to the shrinking opportunities for making a living on the land and, as a result, being a "burden on the Parish", but I can't remember if any suggestion was made as to how the family might have heard about distant employment chances.

That's great - thank you!  I think "Fursy" as a name makes sense for the area concerned which is on the edge of the New Forest and probably had/has a lot of gorse (or "furze").

Thanks very much for your help with this.

Thank you GR2.  Glad to have got the sense of it.  Could I trouble you or someone else for a transcription though, because I can't make out all the wording.

With your assistance, I can now see ".. will is that if my son Henry Trippook ... the mind to put forth my Daughter Maryes ... out of my ... [pasture?] ... and shall ... it that he shall pay unto her or her Assigns the sum of ten pounds of lawfull English mony".

Any help with filling the gaps would be most welcome!

Any assistance please with this passage from a will drafted in 1669.  It concerns the wishes of the testator as to the treatment of his daughter.  I think he is instructing his son that if he wishes to turn her off some piece of land then he has to pay her recompense, but I'm not sure:
