Wexford / Re: Somers - New Ross

HI,
Just thought I would let you know that you can rule out the marriage of MOSES SOMERS TO ELIZABETH SULLIVAN 1892 WEXFORD, mentioned above.

This 1892 marriage is that of my great grandparents who lived and died in the Enniscorthy area. There is no known connection to New Ross.

Hope this is a little bit helpful.

Occupation Interests / Mariners in 1911 UK Census
« on: Tuesday 13 January 09 09:53 GMT (UK)  »
Hi
I found my relatives last night on the newly released UK 1911 census. The head of the household was, however, not present on census night. He was a sailor. I wonder does anyone know how to look specifically for those at sea in the census?

The census is, however, not complete and is missing "royal navy" and "military overseas" so I am wondering if merchant shipping might have fallen into one of these categories?

Can anyone advise?

Dear Wexford Researchers,
I have just uploaded an additional 1,246 records to my Kilmore Genealogy website. These records are the Catholic baptisms, marriages and deaths from 1798 to 1812. I hope they are of use to you...

For anyone researching Irish Mariners, please check out the following exciting new website...
http://www.irishmariners.ie/index.php
It covers the years 1918-1921 in a comprehensive manner.
It is definitely the most useful mariner site i have found anywhere on the net.

The National Archive has updated its website.

They now say that the 1911 census for Kerry, Antrim & Down will be available in October 2008.

As per JAM's post below, they also say that the whole 1911 project will be completed by mid 2009.

That is good news.
For those who can't wait, the IFHF will soon have the index of the 1901 census on line (for a fee). Tipperary North is now on line...

Wexford / Re: Looking for Mary Jane Coates linked to Wade family of Wexford town

Hi Canberragirl
The father's name may or may not be on the birth record.
There is only one set of Catholic Wexford Town parish records so they will include the streets you mention. Unfortunately, parish records are only in the public domain up until 1880.
Best wishes
Rachel
