Hi Steve,

I notice  there were several instances of males marrying who were "Soldiers". Although John's entry doesn't say so, perhaps he was in the militia.

Hi Jim,

Here's one marriage that may be of interest;
Abingdon St.Helens
18-11-1783 John Hobbs to Hannah Barnet - no other details listed.

May not be the correct one as his wife's name is Hannah , not Mary, but I notice you list one of his children as Hannah.

Hi,

Luke Lapam married Hannah Forward 24-1-1803 in Kilmington St.Mary, Wilts (after banns 9,16 & 28th Jan) Both of this parish.

Also Hannah Forward bapt. 23-6-1780 in Mere, Wilts (d/o James & Sarah).

If its any consolation there is also  a burial for James Forward 31-10-1780 in Mere. Could be the father
or another family member.

Hi,

Looking at a map of parishes in Suffolk, Snape is some distance from Bawdsey so I just wonder if you have the right family.
Having said that, I can't find another couple that fit the times. Of course they could have moved for work purposes and there are some couples having children in Boyton with Capel St.Andrew. which would be mid-way between Snape & Bawdsey. I think there are at least a couple of "Markham" families as the dates of baptisms overlap those in Bawdsey & Boyton.

Not much help I'm afraid.

Hi,

One other entry I found;
Buried in Snape ; 6-1-1797 Mary Markham (aged 38) "w/o James" .    Sorry just realised this entry
was found earlier by JonW65.

Hi,

I have also found a James Markham bapt 6-2-1774 Bawdsey St.Mary s/o  John & Elizabeth.
Edited; Forget that bapt as I have found a burial for James Markham 24-1-1777 Inf. in  Bawdsey.

No sign of Mary Mealing's bapt. but there are some other baptisms to James & Mary where her name is recorded as "Maylin".

Hi,

I have found a Anne Markham  bapt. 14-6-1795  in Snape St.John the d/o James & Mary (late Mealing) born 11-12-1794.

Taken from the SuffolkFHS CD of baptisms for Loes & Orford Deaneries.

Is this the person you're after?

Edited; This seems to tie in with the marriage Johnw65 found below.

Hi,
If you're interested, it looks as if Patience Andrews was bapt 23-3-1773 Compton Bassett, (d/o John)
also in same parish;
11-4-1772 John Andrews married Rebecca Eatwell,sp, botp (notes; John is a Labourer).

No sign of John Andrews bapt.
but I have found a Rebecca Eatall bapt  11-12-1743 in Hilmarton (d/o Simon & Rebecca - not sure if this Rebecca is the one who married John Andrews but timescale seems to fit and Hilmarton is a neighbouring parish.

Taken from the WiltsFHS CD 29 (with their kind permission)

Hope this helps.

Berkshire / Re: Patience Winch(Wynch) born abt 1845 Wallingford, Berks
« on: Wednesday 13 June 18 03:33 BST (UK)  »
Hi all,

Just to finish topic off;

I'm more inclined to feel that Patience Winch (bn 1845ish) is the illeg d/o Ann, one of the "Winch" children whose parents are Thomas & Merrita Winch of Wallingford.

My reason for saying this is because they had a dau. Patience bapt 1825 and who died 1833 (aged 8 yrs) in Wallingford St.Mary Le More.

As mentioned before, In the 1851 census there is a Patience,  aged 5, living as the d/o Brice Tutty & Ann born Wallingford and in 1861 she is a house maid aged 15 with the Liddiard family in Wallingford.

The GRO has no record of a Patience Tutty born about 1845 and still nothing found for a Patience Winch same period.

In all the censuses, Ann Winch is consistently 9 years older than her husband Brice which ties in with her bapt. in 1814 Wallingford St.Mary Le More d/o Thomas & Merrita.

So I'll let this topic go,  unless or until the GRO  let us know about the transcription error? for Patience.

Thanks also Carol for reporting it as well.
