Census Lookup and Resource Requests / Re: Why can't I find them? 1841
« on: Sunday 07 May 17 01:08 BST (UK)  »
I know this was a long time ago but are you still looking for information re Walter Carrington, Mary Anne Godrich and their daughters Elizabeth and Mary?

I can't add much but I have Elizabeth (born or baptised 30 July 1810 at Stoke Prior) as marrying W John Hood in 1830 (no location, I'm afraid). This hasn't been verified but comes from an old hand drawn family tree (1930ish). The Carringtons (well some of them) are part of my ancestry hence my interest. There is other information about the family but not well organised.

Hi Eileen

You can tell how experienced at this I am - I registered on this site in 2007 and this is my 2nd posting (you replied to my 1st).

I'm not sure how to proceed. This board appears to be for lookups and people responding to lookups. My information doesn't come from lookups but from a copy of a family tree produced by Matthew Ingle Joyce in about 1895, none of which I have verified.

The tree gives the following for William JOYCE:

Father - Nicholas Joyce of Ashby (Leic.), 1658-1711.
G. father - Nicholas Joyce of Blackfordby, d. 1698
Gg.father - William Joyce of Ashby, 1598-1659?
Ggg.father - Henry Joyce of Blackfordby, 1579-1602
Gggg.father - William Joyce of Gresley and Blackfordby, ? -1618
Ggggg.father - John Joyce of Blackfordby, ? -1572

Matthew Ingle JOYCE was a gg grandson of William and Elizabeth and was knighted in 1900.

Cornet (George) Joyce led the forces that captured Charles I in 1647 and is thought to be of the same Joyce family. He won't add much to your genealogy information but there are one or two interesting tales about him which Google will find.

The Joyce family were established around Blackfordby for many years and I think there are one or two references on the Blackfordby website.

Anyway I hope some of this helps.

Regards

Willbard

Did you ever find any information on William JOYCE?

According to information I have he was married to Elizabeth BARLOW on 29th Sept. 1713 at Norton Juxta Twycross in Leicestershire..

William JOYCE's parents were Nicholas JOYCE and Anne COULSON.
His siblings were Nicholas and Elizabeth. I do have more details, particularly of the JOYCE family but very little has been verified against available records - it all comes from hand drawn family trees.
