John and Elizabeth made their marks.
I too have wondered if there could have been a case of mishearing.

Have now done quite a bit of research on the Eddowes family but am more puzzled by the Ellis connection.

I suppose it is possible that John Evans married an Elizabeth Ellis in 1846. She could have died almost straight away and then he got another Elizabeth pregnant (Eddowes) and they had their first child Mary in Holt in 1847.

Possible but highly unlikely.

John Evans (Brewer) m Elizabeth Ellis in Wrexham 1846. Her father John Ellis.
They lived mainly at 18 Bridge Street.

So how come according to the GRO digital online copies of their five children's births, the mother's former name was Eddowes?

The five children are Mary, John, Richard, Rose Anna and Charles born 1847, 1850, 1852, 1855, 1858 respectively.

General information required please on my ancestor's family.
John Evans was born c 1823 in Llangadfan. He married Elizabeth Ellis in 1846  and they lived in Wrexham. He was listed as a brewer.
John's father was Evan Evans bc 1774 in Llanerfyl and his mother Jane Davies. Evan listed as a butcher.

Any family info warmly received including the Ellis family of Wrexham.  Thanking you.

Other things are bothering me too. Dorothy had three children and yet only two are with her on the 1939 Census and the girls were twins.
