Hi Rowley,

I don't really have much more. I know that in 1863 he was a Mine Haulier and was living in Dowlais top.
I don't know of any siblings at all.

In 1871 his family are -

William Davies 29 engine driver dowlais
Hannah  28
Elizabeth 6
Joan 4
lettice 3
David 7m
Edward Davies 22 boarder
John Davies 19 boarder.

It is possible that one or both (or neither) were his brother.

Sorry, I have no more info than that about William's early life.

Hi,

Could someone look up William Davies for me on the above census records please?

I think he was born in Dowlais in 1841. His dad was called David Davies who was a coal miner.

Given that those are such common names and such a common occupation I am not holding my breath, but will be so grateful for the help.

Clair.

The Lighter Side / Re: Do You Have twins in your family?
« on: Tuesday 21 October 08 21:56 BST (UK)  »
My grandad on my mum's side was a twin ( boy/boy) 1906. His dad was also a twin ( boy/girl )1877.

I haven't managed to get any further back yet because the family name is DAVIES and it's in Wales and they are all hiding from me!  :D

Hi,
Could someone look up John Jones on the 1841, 51 and 61 census for me please?
I know looking for a Jones is hard going, especially a John Jones so my eternal gratitude to anyone who can help.

From his marriage cert, which took place 4th July 1864,in Merthyr Tydfil, i have the following information :-

John Jones 25
Bachelor
Iron Miner
Troedyrhiw (residence at time of marriage)
Nathaniel Jones (deceased [father's name])

From following census records (1871,81,91)- John Jones was born in Carmarthenshire.

Thanks Scrimnett.
So Grampy Doug was in Royal Artillery? Thanks for all your help.
If you wish to regale me with the story of white lanyards I would be very interested (maybe by pm tho if it upsets ex RA's?)

Hi,
Yeah, I got the same email a few days ago and I thought much the same thing. I think they should find a nicer way to try to get folks to buy their credits than this.

The Common Room / Re: How long have you been researching your family tree?
« on: Friday 11 July 08 17:13 BST (UK)  »
Hi,
I've been researching for about 9 months. The reason I started was that I went to visit my Nan's brother and he mentioned something to me about a bloke called "Will the milk" - the local milkman years ago. Apparently he was an uncle but noone could tell me quite how he was related.

In finding out about him I got the bug and have been researching frantically ever since. Not v far back yet but am pleased with my progress so far.
