World War Two / 5th Bn East Yorkshire Regiment - Pte Harry Peterson

I am struggling to find additional information regarding my great uncle. I know he served with the 5th Bn The East Yorkshire Regiment (Duke of York’s Own) during WW2.  I have obtained some data from the CWGC site.
4348060 Pte Harry Peterson DOB: 13 May 1913, Liverpool. Died: 17 Aug 1942, Mediterranean Sea. I believe he was a POW captured in North Africa, he along with hundreds of other POW’s the ship was I believe sunk by a British submarine? On its way to Italy.  Have tried to find out what medals he was awarded and other military details without any luck. I hope someone can point me in the right direction. Thanks in Advance

Thanks Keith.
It’s best to begin with someone where there are definite records, I would say, and then work back.  :)

I shall do thanks

Thank you. I saw that earlier.

How do you know that he is an ancestor of your cousin?
You say John is his child. Where do you have that record?
Who is John’s child etc to connect to the family?

I am sorry I keep asking questions.
I have to go out soon but I am sure you will get help. I will check later.

You are fine, sometimes we all need a shove and a bit of a kick sometimes.

I have taken this on from my cousin, I think the links are a bit ropey.
I will delve more deeply. You may not see another post from me until tomorrow.

Keith

Here is a previous thread - but it is not very helpful  :-\
https://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php?topic=832865.

Please would you give the information you have with regard to:
John Madden - where born, residence etc
James Madden being John’s father etc
How do you know the mother was Elizabeth Moore?

Were the family Catholic as previous thread states.

Hi Heywood,

I do appologise I have looked at the previous thread and I must have taken my lead from the response.

What I have collated is as follows.

James was a fringe manufacturer operating out of 11 Aston quays quay Dublin. Between 1801-1825 working between Dublin & Manchester trade button trimming warehouse/fringe warehouse.

I don’t have much on his son John just that he was married 1795 to Sarah ?
DOB 1775

I have no idea if they were catholic

Some of the information I have gleaned from ancestry Uk when I have searched James Madden the hit search button with Ireland selected.

Dublin / James Madden - Dublin 1754

I am carrying out some research on behalf of my cousin.
I have traced her maternal side to Ireland.

James Madden DOB 9 Feb 1754 Dublin. No date of death. 1820 Resident 11 Aston’s Quay Dublin.  Married to Elisabeth Moore. No further details.

I would like to try and go further back in the Madden family tree.  Also James Madden’s date of death and where he died.

I have his sons basic details John Madden DOB 1775 Ireland and nothing else?
I hope I have not replicated my work.

Keith
