Hi Viv,  I can confirm that we are descended from the same line, i.e. Abraham b. 1789/90 x Ann Thornton, Abraham b. 1812 x Annie Payne.  My line from there is from the youngest son, Henry William b. 1864 x Louisa Ann Rielly.  I have your line from there as Abraham James x Mary Anne Bouwer, Abraham Thomas x Eileen Grace Gardner, then their daughter Edna Ann Wild x Arthur Lewis. I have your email address and will send you an invite to the Zoompast tree.
As far as the Oldham family is concerned, I have never been able to pinpoint just exactly which Abraham he was.  There were4 or 5 possible births in the timeframe 1788-1790, but I believe there was a story circulating in the family about an old family bible where his parents were listed as James and Mally - so I have opted for this. Watch out for the invite - sign in and you will see a search box at the top lefthand corner of the page - just click on that and put in the name of the person you wish to view and it will "zoom" to that bit of the family.  I will make you the "root" of the family, so you will go straight into the part you want to see.  There are more than 9000 people on the database!

Thanks for a speedy response. My maternal grand father was Abraham Thomas, he died in 1961ish. His father was Abraham James, his weather Abraham born 1812 and his father Abraham born 1790.
I can’t be sure of anything further as there seem so many Wilds in Oldham and a lot name their children the same names.
Thanks for any help.
Viv

Hi Vivienne,  Can you say who your mum's father was?  I will then be able to find the correct line.  If you like, I can invite you to see our tree on Zoompast - I will just need to have you email address.

Hi Paul - I am back on Rootschat a long last.  It appears that our William Henrys are not one and the same people.  Ours was the illegitimate son of Mary Marshall.  He was born 1857 at the Barnsley Workhouse in Gawber Street.  We have never been able to establish just who his father was, despite DNA testing.  Mary was the d.o. Thomas Marshall b. 1808 and Sarah Smith.  There definitely were links to the Wilkinson family later on.  If you can let me have your email address I could invite you to see our tree on Zoompast.

Hi Keresforth,  do you have your stuff on a family history database such as the one from the Mormon Church?  If so, you could send a "gedcom" which is a compressed file and will easily send by email.

Regards,

Carol

Hi Keresforth,
It sounds like your cousin Michael is descended through the male line, so this would be fine.  The test would be on the Y chromosome, which is passed down from father to son ad infinitum (barring a few mutations along the way).  We would be most grateful if he would agree to test.  I will send you a private message with my email - would you be able to send me the genealogy that way?

Kind regards,

Carol

Hi Woofie, I guess it would depend on whether Keresforth's cousins are descended from another branch of the same family - the male line does not have to come from either Eugene or Alphonse - it could be from say a brother of William Baker Wood.  As long as it's from the same family, the DNA will have been passed from father's to sons down all of the branches.  Hopefully this is the case.
