Hi Lisa I don't know if this will help but I am descended from the Smith family gypsies from Buckinghamshire, Northants, Lincs and I read something the other day which linked the Smiths to the Grays, I can't find the article at the moment, I'm not very organised but I did come across this and thought that it might be of some help to your search? I'm sorry I have just realised that I don't think that I can put a direct link to the article in respect to the author but if you search for gypsygenealogy dot com you will find an article by Eric Trudgill, search in all articles under the letter "w" entitled William Gray.

The Common Room / Re: Free Access this weekend on Ancestry 28th-31st August

Just spent a few hours trawling through the records and found a birth record that I have been searching for ages and a few more interesting titbits of information so well worth the time, I always wondered how good bad or indifferent ancestry.com was and it looks worth the fee if you can afford it that is, did someone say that the site is usually free via library computers?  :)

My great grandfather born in 1849 and my great grandmother born 1850 were married in 1868 he marked the marriage certificate with an x she with a signature. She was born into a traveling gypsy family who became settled sometime between her third and eleventh birthdays he was a hawker. I would imagine that as they were settled she attended school but he didn't as he was traveling from place to place throughout his childhood.

Hi closetearl, I'm sorry I don't have any information about Emma Dixey other than she appears on the 1881 census with my gg grandmother Caroline Dixey, I was under the assumption that all of the Dixey's in the workhouse at this time would have been in some way related although that may not be the case. Do you know if there was a connection between Emma and the other Dixey's?
Regards Barry.

The Common Room / The Church of Jesus Christ open day
« on: Thursday 27 August 09 19:07 BST (UK)  »
Has anyone attended one of the Church of Jesus Christ of latter day saints family history open days? The church in my local area is advertising one in a couple of weeks, what are they like, what facilities will they have for research, and are they worth attending? Thanks for any information.

Thanks Shaun I will do that as I'm sure that they are the correct people I'm after.
